THE STORY of the planning application for 76 High Street goes back several years. In 2008, there was a wrangle between the council and the DC as to who had jusrisdiction that involved the distance between the location and the river Thames.

But on Monday, life moved on as the DC moved to “mind’ approval for 24 dwellings at the site of the old Dominoes gym.

Speaking at the meeting, Grays Thurrock reverend, Darren Barlow told the committee that he was pleased that at long last the buildings that adjoined his church in Grays would be developed.

Rev Barlow said: “Our church is a grade 2 listed building dating back over a thousand years. It is important that the development next door respects that.”

Reverend Barlow made a number of requests and they included that the developers recognise that there is a tradition of the bells ringing out before services as well as a thriving bell-ringing club.

The planning committee minded the application for approval.
