THE third combined Southern Athletic League Match at St Ives, Cambridge – with the men choosing to go to the Southern Men’s League Match – left the women to do battle alone again.

Despite the heavy down pours and the hailstone storm Thurrock’s Women produced many outstanding performances and dominated the women’s section of the match.

Sue Lawrence once again showed her dominance in the throws winning the javelin, shot and hammer before finishing second in the discus behind highly UK ranked Hollie Redman from Woodford.

Chay Clark also had triple success winning the 100m and 400m Hurdles in PB times. Also running and jumping to winning places was Rebecca Barnard in the B string 100m and 400m hurdles and the Triple Jump.

Natalie Le Beau jumped to victory in the A string Long Jump before battling in the strong wind for victory in the 200m before jumping to second place in the high jump. Lynn Talbert covered the 100m, 200m, 400m and both relays.

Chaima Allali secured second place in the A string 800m race and threw a new best in the javelin to finish second there too. Sarah Driver gained valuable points in both the 1500m and 3000m races as did Gerry Heapy in the discus. Thurrock finished fourth.
