THURROCK Thameside Musical Society (TTMS) will be performing Oliver! Lionel Bart’s classic musical adaptation of Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens.
Oliver is an orphan who finds himself going from the workhouse to the seemingly cosy den of Fagin a thief, the Artful Dodger who is a thief in training and Bill Sykes a thug with a temper. The show is full of classic catchy songs such as Oom pah pah, I’d do anything and Food glorious food.
The show is being directed by Scott Dean who has directed many shows for TTMS and other groups including Hot Mikado, Carousel, Forbidden Broadway and TTMS awarding winning Eurobeat.
Scott says ‘"I am really pleased with the way rehearsals are going. We are a couple of months in and we are where we should be. The greatest challenge and most rewarding part is working with the kids. Some of them are very young and inexperienced, however they are working extremely hard and I am sure the results will be plain to see come show week. This is the first show I ever did as a child so I know what they are going through. It can be quite daunting but as soon as we get to the theatre, everything will click into place and they will have a fantastic time, as will the audiences watching them"
Ashton Moore is the musical director and he has worked as musical director on many shows including Billy Elliot, Rent and Godspell. He says he is fulfilling a lifelong ambition to work on a show at the Thameside Theatre.
Emma Turner is choreographer for the show and she has been a performer with TTMS for many years and has dipped her toes into choreographing before.
This is her first show as principal choreographer for TTMS and she is excited to be working with the cast, especially on the big numbers such as Who will buy. So don’t miss your chance to see this fantastic show and buy your tickets. The show runs every evening from 30th June to 4th July with a matinee performance on the Saturday.
