CHARITIES are teaming up with all Thurrock libraries to take part in the national Fibromyalgia Awareness Week, which runs from the 6th to the 12th September.

Fibromyalgia Action UK (FMA UK) and FMSupport South East Essex will hold an information stall on Thursday the 10th September from 10 am to 2 pm in Grays library. Information leaflets about fibromyalgia and about support services available from FMA UK will be available from all Thurrock libraries.

Fibromyalgia is an incurable chronic pain condition, which is widespread, includes other symptoms, like chronic fatigue, often causes disability and makes people unable to work. With the right support it can be managed and sufferers can enjoy a better life. It is the second top common condition with rheumatoid symptoms, after osteoarthritis, but the knowledge amongst the public and medical professionals is still quite poor and the Awareness Week aims to help increase public understanding of the condition.

Ella Vine from Thurrock and Executive Officer at Fibromyalgia Action UK said: ‘’We hope that many people will get involved in the Awareness Week. If you can’t come to talk to us at Grays library on Thursday then leaflets will be available in all Thurrock’s libraries and you can get in touch with us in the meantime.

Up to 2. 7 million people in the UK live with fibromyalgia. We know people in every community, in every profession who suffer from the condition and we are here to help. Our charity provides national helplines, benefit, welfare and medical information, online support forums and many other services, as well as a national voice to improve care services to patients and research into fibromyalgia’’.

FMSupport South East Essex group will meet on the 10th September at 7.30 pm in Stanford le Hope, Methodist Church, High St, SS17 0EY. All welcome.
