Wingate and Finchley 1 v 3 East Thurrock United
A SAM Higgins double secured all three points for East Thurrock United at Summers Lane but they did not have it all their own way.
There was nothing between the teams early on. The Rocks were keeping their shape as Wingate’s fast players such as Alex Addai took advantage of the smooth surface and played a pressing game.
East Thurrock got the first corner of the game as they put pressure on Wingate.
A lot of the danger for Wingate came from the swift Karl Oliyide down the left hand side.
As the half progressed it felt as if The Rocks were becoming more dominant however they did not produce a clear cut chance in the first half hour.
Sammy Knott was busy as he cut out a break from Leon Fisher.
In the 29th minute, Higgins slid the ball to Walker who dummied to Tom Wraight but his shot hit a defender.
Wingate opened the scoring in the 31st minute when Leon Fisher was given acres of space to pick his spot.
They nearly made it 2-0 in the 39th minute when a Tommy Cumming shot fired over the bar.
But just before half time, Sam Higgins go the team back into the game when he got a free header from close range.
The Rocks came out of the traps in the second half. Sam Higgins produced a strong run that produced a good save from keeper Charlie Crowley.
Sam Higgins started to find space the game opened out with Wingate looking dangerous on the break.
Higgins put the Rocks in front when Tom Wraight was tripped in the box in the 65th minute. He slotted the ball home from the spot.
In the 68th minute, Tom Wraight bundled the ball home to make it 3-1.
The game lost its spark somewhat as Wingate found it hard to put in a meaningful attack whilst Rocks controlled the game.
