The eighties will dominate life at William Edwards over the next three nights as a blizzard of dayglo hits the stage with the school performance of "Back to the eighties". On Monday, the school used the dress rehearsal to put on a performance as well as a lunch for the Thurrock Over 60's

ST CLERE'S school have opened their new state-of-the-art drama studio and dedicated it in the memory of a former teacher. The Tony Bartlett Drama Studio, at the Butts Lane school has everything a drama student and teacher could want.
Jamie Roberts first came to the fore in 2005,as Wales’ under 21 team won the Grand Slam. In that year’s autumn series he fractured his skull against Australia but came back strongly in 2009 being selected for the British Lions with that great Irishman, Brian O’Driscoll. He performed so well that he was the British Lions man of the series. Of course earlier this year he performed heroics with Wales as they reached the semi-finals of the World Cup and, had it not been for the controversial sending off of captain, Sam Warburton, could have been a World Cup winner.
The strength and depth of running throughout the school is improving each year at William Edwards which is evidenced in the results. Coupled together with the recent success that we have had in the national competition with both our junior boys and inter girls reaching the regional finals, the standard of running from our athletes is amazing.
An award-winning British fashion designer recently paid a visit to Thurrock recently to deliver a masterclass to Fashion students of South Essex College. Julian Roberts, who has shown 13 collections at London Fashion Week, demonstrated a revolutionary pattern cutting technique he invented, called ‘subtraction cutting’, to fifty BA (Hons) Fashion Design and FdA Fashion and Textiles students.
MARK SEXTON from the Lakeside Hammers came to Harris Academy (Chafford Hundred) as part of the Next Top Boss roadshow that is now gathering steam. Organised by Thurrock Council, the Harris students have really embraced the concept of business being embedded into their future lives.
IT HAS BEEN A brilliant effort by the Gable Hall staff led by head of PE, Andrew Dobson. The mean, moody and moustachioed the staff grew a fantastic set of taches, and all in aid of Essex Air Ambulance.

THE MAJORITY OF schools in the borough will be closed tomorrow as a consequence of the public sector strikes. Of the schools under local education authority control only Kenningtons primary in Aveley remains totally open.
South Essex College is helping lead the fight back in south Essex, tackling the problem of NEETs with a range of new short courses starting in January, which will be highlighted at an event on Wednesday 7th December at the College’s Thurrock Campus, between 1pm – 3pm.

This is a fascinating session where the students work in groups to figure out puzzles. The brain energy in the room full of key stage one students take on a number of challenges and the delight in their faces illustrate a real hunger for learning.
