The first half was a very even affair. Witham did take the initial lead through their dangerous, pacy wingers, it was Thurrock who turned round the leaders 12 – 14 at half time, thanks to two well worked forward catch and drive tries from Liam Walsh and captain Tony Millsom and two touchline conversions from Luke Cotter. The scrum and line were working well.
HAMMERS saw their Elite League play-off final aspirations dashed at Arlington on Monday evening despite a determined performance. The final scoreline was flattering to the home side, who now face Poole in the final after the Pirates put Ipswich Stars to the sword by an aggregate score of 108-75.

Thurrock went into the season with a new coach and new players to the first team squad, also with a few players out through injury. Thurrock started quick off the blocks attacking the opposition with some fluid passing, although the visitors hit back with some great play of their own forcing Man of the Match Andy Gaut to make some fine saves. The tees and the visitors traded blows right the way to half time.
Stanley, the former England Under 20’s player, was the games stand out performer and it was his inspired second half display that dragged Thurrock back from a 15 – 0 half time deficit. Up until the break things had gone well for Bury in a keenly fought encounter. they needed to however, as Thurrock showed that once again they will be amongst the league’s leading sides come April.
