Getting on the bike I felt great until the start of the climb, took on gels every 30 minutes and then proceeded as usual to watch all the strong cyclists but slow swimmers, overtake me on the climb. I really enjoyed the bike and chatted to a few people on the climb up to make the most of the day, the scenery was stunning and bombing down the downhills crossing over the center line due to the closed roads was fantastic, even though some of the switch backs were seriously scary. I was gunning for sub 3 hours on the bike but just didn’t have it in me, managed 3:08 in the end which was still 34 minutes better than my Wimbleball effort last year but it’s still my weakest discipline (223 / 281).
Heat 1 saw Lee Richardson pass Kenneth Bjerre to join Kauko Nieminen on a 5-1 and that set the tone for the first 5 races. Step up Stuart Robson – ever the entertainer, Robbo produced passes in his first three rides to help put the Hammers up 23-7 by Heat 5. Indeed Ht 5 was Robbo’s ride of the night as he caught and passed Tactical Rider Kenneth Bjerre and Tomas Topinka for a 5-1 with Adam Shields.
Belhus achieved their highest ever first eleven total in a league match when they amassed 338 in this Shepherd Neame Essex League division three encounter. Joe Joyce led the way with a fine 126 as he put on 120 for the fourth wicket with his brother Danny, who made 43. There were other significant contributions from Wayne Read 38, Richard Day 35 and Michael Fogg 36.

Following defeat in their previous fixture, Horndon U16 got their Matchplay campaign back on track with a comfortable win at Shenfield on Sunday
Debutante Callum Cockley took three early wickets and finished with excellent figures of 3-14 from eight overs as Shenfield were dismissed for 130. Nisal Karu (2-16), Bradley Mason (2-23), James Stitson (2-24) and Connor Price (1-25) were the other wicket takers.
The meeting was effectively decided in the penultimate heat fourteen when Ludvig Lindgren lifted and crashed out on the third turn whilst under a heavy challenge from Robert Mear. After a lengthy wait for the decision, Lindgren was excluded and the Hammers claimed a match-winning 5-1 through Mear and Piotr Swiderski.
The first night (5-6pm on 13th May 2011) was a huge success and Orsett CC would like to thank all the headteachers and school staff who supported this initiative. 72 Children turned up from a wide range of schools and ages. They really enjoyed the free cricket coaching and will be back this week along with children who could not make the first week and others who have heard about its success!
