Thurrock student dies after falling from university building

A THURROCK student has died after falling from a university building. Christopher Bergeron, 19, believed to be of South Ockendon, was discovered injured at the University of Derby, which he attended. Security staff found Christopher unconscious shortly before 4pm, having sustained serious injuries, and he was taken to Royal Derby Hospital with serious injuries, where he was later pronounced dead.

Women hurt after accidental fire in Orsett

A WOMAN suffered the effects of smoke inhalation after a fire broke out in a house in Grosvenor Road, Orsett. The incident commander reported that the semi-detached house was 5% alight and completely smoke logged.

Man struck by car at Lakeside

THERE WAS traffic chaos at Lakeside on Friday evening after a man was struck by a car near Lakeside's McDonald's restaurant. The pedestrian was struck by a blue Ford Focus around 4pm this afternoon in Cygnet View.

US Navy suspends Chafford based shipping company

THE US NAVY has announced that it has suspended business with a Chafford Hundred defence contractor over “questionable business integrity,” the second time in two months that it has revealed deep problems with a company that services its ships around the world reports The Washington Post. In a statement the Navy said: "It had suspended Inchcape Shipping Services, an old-line maritime trading firm based in Britain that delivers cargo and provides port services in 66 countries".

Elderly victim robbed of purse at Morrison’s

The 77-year-old victim had been shopping at Morrison’s, in London Road, Grays, at about 11.30am on November 29 when her purse was stolen from her bag. Anyone with information is urged to contact Pc Lauren Sharland, or her colleagues at Grays, on 101.

High value watches stolen from Lakeside jewellers

POLICE want to identify a man caught on CCTV at the time that two expensive watches were stolen from a jewellers. A man had entered Ernest Jones at the Lakeside Shopping Centre in West Thurrock between 9pm and 9.30pm on Wednesday November 20.

Suspected arson attacks on South Ockendon sheds

FIRE CREWS tackled a fire in a series of sheds at the rear of a derelict building in Cample Lane, South Ockendon. Using two hose reel jets, crews had extinguished the fire by 00:13hrs.

Man with serious head injuries after collision in Grays

A MAN is in hospital with serious head injuries after a road traffic collision in Grays last night (Tuesday). Police were called to Orsett Road, Grays by ambulance staff at 8pm after a report that a man carrying a metal pole had come into collision with a Peugeot 207.
