WHEN YT came to visit Treetops headteacher, Paul Smith, he was up on the roof, tending to some repairs. Last time we interviewed him he was out coaching football. Perry Harding, 17, from Grays is one student who has benefitted from the course. A MOTHER and daughter from Purfleet are teaming up to take part in a charity bike ride going through Vietnam and Cambodia in November. Susan Newton, 51, of Saladin Drive, and Vicky Dewar, 30, of Marlow Avenue, hope to raise over £6,000 for the Women for Women charity.
As he has done in the last 30 marathons, Pat Dobbs completed his 31st London with a great performance. He was third in the 70+ age group with a time of 3.49.06. This was 18 minutes faster than last year when he was recovering from a serious health set back. As he has passed through the various veteran age bands Pat has collected an array of medals but this one has given him a great amount of satisfaction.

The sampling project looked at a range of bakers from individual firms to national supermarkets. Around 80% of the samples taken were found to be in the amber category of the Food Standards Agency’ (FSA) traffic light system and the remainder were red. The FSA traffic light system uses red, amber and green to advise consumer on healthy choices for certain nutritional benefits of food including fat and salt levels. The more green lights on a food the healthier it is.

The Celebrations will start in earnest on Saturday 9 July with an afternoon show and art display at the South Essex College’s Thurrock Campus in Woodview. The opening event will be the culmination of a series of talent sessions hosted in all the local secondary schools, with the afternoon including art work and performances from professional artists and local high quality acts.

Council tenant Tony Houston has been leading the campaign to brighten up the area and joined Thurrock Council workers and representatives of the trust to put the finishing touches to the planting. He said: “I was made redundant and took early retirement two years ago and was looking for something to do. There are a lot of young mums and young children here and we wanted the play area and to brighten the whole area up.
