Cedar Hall sponsored athletes: Tall Poppy aims to leap the world

THE CALIBRE of athletes sponsored by Cedar Hall Clinic is quite astonishing. Poppy is a 17 year old high jumper who is a member of Chelmsford Athletic Club & coached by Phillip Sergeant. She has represented both Essex and GB at a number of events including, the Schools International competition of 2012, where she won the title with a new PB of 1.75.

Cedar Hall profile: Alice Perkins “Physio has been the difference between first and second.”

Alice is a middle distance runner and member of Basildon Athletics Club coached by Jacqui Childs. Following a broken ankle during training, Alice worked hard, through rehabilitation, and was rewarded at the end of the 2012 season by achieving a PB in her 1500m of 4min 56secs, knocking almost 30 seconds from the start of her season.

Thurrock NHS bosses deny “Gagging” GPs from talking about health services

BOSSES of the newly formed Thurrock Clinical Commissioning Group (TCCG) have denied that any form of "gagging order" has been placed on the members of the group. The TCCG was formed on April 1st and will have responsibility for the multi-million pound NHS budget in Thurrock.

Local NHS changes from 1 April 2013

THE reforms to the NHS which healthcare workers have been working towards will finally come to fruition and GPs will take charge of commissioning health services for their patients from 1 April 2013. Primary Care Trusts remain accountable until 31 March 2013, when their functions will be taken over by the newly established NHS Commissioning Board, Clinical Commissioning Groups, local authorities, NHS Commissioning Support Unit and the NHS Property Company.

Paralympian inspires children at Thurrock hospital

PARALYMPIAN Sophia Warner visited the orthotic services for young people provided by the Children’s Occupational Therapy team in south west Essex, on Tuesday 5 February. Sophia, a Commonwealth gold medal sprinter and a London 2012 Team GB Paralympian, toured the therapy clinic at the John Tallack Centre, Thurrock Hospital, Long Lane, Grays, where patients are fitted with garments to aid their mobility.

Thurrock Council fined for “ignoring” asbestos hazard in schools

The council was told to arrange for the immediate removal of the material under licensed conditions. However, a HSE inspection in April 2010, as part of a national initiative monitoring asbestos in a number of local authority controlled schools, found that nothing had been done.This was despite school staff and contractors alike regularly entering the boiler room in the intervening six year period.

Thurrock MP Tim Janman fulfilled his election pledge of moving home to live in the borough, the first Member of Parliament to do so since the mid-1940s. Mr Janman, the first Tory MP for Thurrock since the 1930s, moved into a house in West Tilbury six months after becoming elected and had been accepted for membership of the Chadwell Workingmen’s Club.
