Artist ascending: Interview with Hannah Woolmer

Hannah's latest single Lark Ascending is simply beautiful. Listen to it and you can picture the mist coming off the fields in Orsett, which is apposite as that is where we interviewed Hannah. Lark Ascending can be bought on i-tunes.

Millie Stevens: Runner-up in Thurrock Young Musician of the Year 2011

THE FEEDBACK from the judges was fascinating. Millie grabbed second place for a number of factors. It wasn't just her singing, it was also her presentation and stage presence. Millie was very very nervous in the heats over at the Culver Centre so did well just to make it to the final never mind gaining second place.

Vera Plumridge’s Musical Soiree 2011

he show is in its 35th year and Vera continues to put her heart and soul into the show. From very young ones just learning their first pieces to artists such as Charlotte Dawson who have now appeared on much bigger stages. They all get to appear.

James Surridge: Finalist in Thurrock Young Musician of the Year

JAMES produced some very deft and subtle drumming in his piece on the Thameside stage in the final of the Thurrock Young Musician of the Year. As with the other drumming finalist, it does seem a harder task to impress on the skins compared to others but James did very well.

Dilan Courts: Finalist at Thurrock Young Musician of the Year 2011

IT WAS good to see such a variety of musicianship at the Thurrock Young Musician of the Year and they certainly saved one of the best until last. Dilan Courts delivered a beautiful piece of classical guitar.

Nicole Boran: Finalist Young Musician of the Year

NICOLE was one of the many pianists who benefited from last weeks masterclasses by the Royal Opera House. Nicole was one of two pianists to make it through to the final.

Michael Stubley: Finalist Thurrock Young Musician of the Year 2011

GABLE HALL student Michael Stubley is one the young musicians who has appeared on YourThurrock quite a lot over the last few years. It is good to see his talent develop and grow and certainly, reaching the final has been a real feather in his cap.

Victoria Nunnery: Finalist in Thurrock Musician of the Year 2011

THE CORNET looks like an instrument that you have to possess a degree of tenacity and dedication in order to get right. Victoria Nunnery seems to possess this in spades as she copes with a very challenging piece over six minutes but copes admirably.

Cast of Aladdin enjoy their visit to The Garden Restaurant at Orsett Hall

THE cast of Aladdin recently enjoyed a visit to Orsett Hall’s lovely Garden Restaurant as a special treat. They were very impressed with the ambience and fantastic menu and thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Widow Twankey was a big fan of the deserts and booked to come back for a special Champagne Afternoon Tea with the Genie during a break from Panto performances.

Taylor West: Finalist in Thurrock Young Musician of the Year

TAYLOR takes on a number from Les Miserables in a wonderfully mature and expressive manner. Taylor was filmed last week at one of the master classes in the heats of Thurrock Young Musician of the Year and it seems to have reaped its rewards as the Palmers's College student puts on a very confident performance.

Archie Brown: Young Musician of the Year Finalist

THE DRUMMERS have a harder task than most to impress at the young musician contests. It would take a high degree of proficiency to create a wow factor when you are drumming on your own so well done to Archie for producing a bravura performance on the drums.
