Residents join the Thurrock Community Chorus in a concert of opera and carols

Thurrock Community Chorus was joined by professional opera singers Nicola Wydenbach and Andrew Rees, from the Royal Opera House, who performed pieces by Mozart and Verdi. The whole audience was invited to sing the carols and everyone was in great voice.

Aladdin-tastic is a smash hit at the Thameside

One of the highlights of the show is the singing of Slave of the Ring, Shona Damms. Shona is not only affable as a TOWIE-alike slave but can really belt out a number. But the real glue that sticks the panto together is former EastEnders star, Dean Gaffney. One thought he would be a little detached but he really really warms into the role of Wishee Washee and is the star of the second half.

THE CURTAIN is just about to go up for the 2011-12 Thameside Theatre pantomime, Aladdin. And it looks like it is going to be loads of fun. Starring Eastenders star, Dean Gaffney and the irrepressible, Brian Belo, winner of Big Brother in 2007 as well as a great cast of characters.

Thurrock artist exhibits new work in east London

The Brazilian-born artist, who enjoyed successful exhibitions in Grays last year with ‘Thurrock Life in Focus’ and in central London earlier this year, is exhibiting alongside several other artists at an exhibition called My Crappy City or Settee. She is also collaborating with a group of other Thurrock artists on a project related to the 2012 Olympics next year. Million Dollar Heart focuses on the tragic world of the homeless of east London and tells the story of the danger and issues that face them day to day, while showing their personal and human side. She took the pictures at various locations in the East End and developed a relationship and rapport during the project which has allowed her pictures to become very intimate and to tell a story.

YT in NYC: From Thurrock to Broadway: Interview with Claudia Morcroft

OUR third film in our YT in NYC series, focusses on actress Claudia Morcroft. Claudia was a founder member of the Thurrock-based Creative Blast Agency. Claudia hails from Rayleigh but has worked all over South Essex and London.

Panto cast hit Lakeside and Sainsburys (and tickets are selling fast)

The cast of Aladdin enjoyed a whirlwind shopping trip around Thurrock on Saturday. They visited Sainsburys Chafford Hundred, where they shopped for chocolates, helped pack shopping bags and entertained the crowds before they were whisked off in a golden limo to Partyman World in Lakeside and then into Lakeside itself! They met lots of people along the way and posed for photos with the shoppers and did some shopping for themselves – Widow Twankey could not believe all the goodies she found and has already asked for a return visit!

Coringham Dougie wins “I’m a Celebrity, Get me out of here!”

CORRINGHAM son, Gable Hall student and McFly star, Dougie Poynter has won this years, "I'm a celebrity, get me out of here." In a surprise win, the bass guitarist beat fellow Thurrock celebrity, Mark Wright in a straight off battle.

THE THURROCK trio of Dougie Poynter, Fatima Whitbread and Mark Wright have made it to the last four of this years "I'm a celebrity, Get me out of her." McFly guitarist and former Gable Hall student has impressed with his amiable style as well as striking up a friendship with TOWIE star and Thurrock footballer (on paper) Mark Wright.

Jamie backs apprenticeships at Royal Opera House

The Education team in Thurrock delivers a wide range of inspiring community and education projects such as the Thurrock Community Chorus, Youth Arts Leadership and Arts Award in Thurrock and South Essex. Over the last five years, it has offered many hundreds of local Thurrock residents and students across South Essex exciting opportunities to learn new skills and become involved in different aspects of the arts from performance to the production and technical sides of theatre.

Martell School of Dance wow the crowd with annual show

Last weekend over 50 girls from The Martell School of Dance from Grays put on two spectacular shows at the Towngate Theatre in Basildon. The girls aged 3 – 23 years showed that they really do have talent with their tap, ballet, modern, jazz and drama routines to music from The Wizard of Oz to Hairspray!

Acoustic Night in Grays High Street

THE GRAYS OPEN mic sessions continue with a night at the Grays snooker club in the High Street (above the Blockbusters). This is the third session and have been well attended so far.

East Enders star set to appear at Grays shopping centre

EASTENDERS star Scott Maslen will be appearing at Grays Shopping Centre on Saturday, November 26th. The actor, who plays Jack Branning in the BBC soap, will there midday until 2pm.
