Work Starts On Grays Town Centre Development
Construction work has started at a new 186-house development in the centre of Grays.
Persimmon Homes Essex has completed the purchase of the former gas works site on London Road and has now begun laying the first bricks.
The development, known as Urban Central, will bring much-needed homes to the area as well as hundreds of jobs.
Emma Hawkins, Head of Sales at Persimmon Homes Essex, said: “We’re delighted to be pressing forward with this much-anticipated development. This scheme represents an excellent use of brownfield land right in the centre of Grays.
“Grays is a very popular place to live with a bustling high street, fashionable restaurants and shops and easy train access into London. We know that these properties will prove to be very popular indeed.
“We will have a stunning choice of two, three and four bedroom homes, perfect for first-time buyers, professionals and families. We’re giving people the chance to register their interest now so that they can be kept up-to-date with progress, including when the houses are released for sale very soon.”
The site had been recognised as a suitable location for new homes by Thurrock Council for some time, but Persimmon Homes was the first developer to bring forward a plan.
The site will benefit from a relocated and upgraded vehicle access via London Road. Furthermore, the development will protect the wooded area at the centre of the site and Persimmon will manage the area to promote its wildlife interest.

How can you have ‘upgraded vehicle access via London Road’ when the road is already vastly overloaded, peak morning & evening traffic is already regularly at a crawl, this development will just cause even more misery!
