THE THURROCK Sea Cadets spent the weekend in the foyer of Decathlon in Lakeside as they raised funds for a new mini-bus.The cadets set up a rowing machine in the foyer and set the controls for 27 miles, the distance between Dover and Calais.
Annette Lewis, community worker for ngage said “It was an extremely cold and snowy day, but this didn’t stop people from coming along and helping to plant the new shrubs. We were amazed to see how much was achieved on the day. Aswell as planting, we also held an Easter Egg hunt and had 3 lucky winners and everyone received a smaller egg just taking part”.
BULPHAN Women’s Institute is 84 years old – and we celebrated in style with a cabaret evening that had everything: very smart members and guests from other institutes in Thurrock and further afield; a delicious 3-course meal with all the trimmings prepared and served by the committee; excellent venue (Bulphan Village Hall – one of the best halls around); very smooth entertainment from Rat Pack tribute singer Peter James; guests who joined in enthusiastically, whether it was buying raffle tickets, singing or dancing; and of course our own dancing girls who turned up in cheeky basques, fish nets and feathered head dresses.
ST MARY the Virgin in Dock Road Little Thurrock is seeing some changes. Throughout the history of the church the 1170 church has been adapted to meet the needs of the times. It has been extended at both ends first in the 14th century and then by the Victorians. The south doorway has been filled in and pews have been installed and then changed.
THE new April-July 2013 ACE training programme is now taking enrolments. It offers FREE bitesize courses ranging from First Aid to Job Interview Skills.

CHADWELL Community Forum’s Annual General Meeting will be held at Emmanuel Church-hall on Wednesday 17th April 2013 starting at 7.30pm. All residents of Chadwell St Mary can come along, and volunteers to join the committee would be particularly welcome.
CORRINGHAM residents, traders and even local politicians joined in on the inaugural Easter Egg hunt in the town centre. The day was organised by the Residents And Traders Association of Corringham (RATAC).
A LEADING mould campaigner in Thurrock says she is shocked at the results of a new investigation into mould in her home. Deirdre Lodge from Stifford Road, Aveley is suffering from an incurable lung condition. For the past few years, Deirdre has been campaigning to see improvements in homes that have mould, so as to prevent other residents seeing their health deteriorate.
JEFF Charlton is the man known as the go-to man for disaster analysis. You may have seen him on Sky News as a pundit during the countless floods we have had to endure. He has also been in a number of television programmes that, when you discover they are called: "Help my house is falling down", tell their own story.
All you need to do is collect your map and visit the shops listed on it. (Children MUST be accompanied by an adult). Find the egg picture hidden in the shop and write down the easter word you find on it.
Then collect your Easter egg sticker from the counter. When you have found all the egg pictures and collected your stickers, children can redeem their map for a real chocolate Easter egg and a lovely certificate of completion.
THE new South Ockendon Centre opened its doors quietly on Monday (25 March) and attracted a stream of visitors.
