New Crossing for Southend Road

Conservative Councillor Pauline Tolson for Homesteads ward said “We have been campaigning on residents’ behalf about Southend Road for some time. About a year ago we secured funding for signs to help cut speeding, this crossing will now provide a safe place for many local residents, including schoolchildren, to cross. In such an economically tough time, it’s great to see we can still deliver these important community projects”.

Chadwell campaign to restore X1 bus

COMMUNITY leaders in Chadwell are campaigning to reverse plans by the Ensign bus company to cancel the X1 bus service that passes through their area. Chadwell community forum chair Peter Saunders has placed a petition on e-petition.

ngage Volunteer Centre Thurrock are looking for a new volunteer Coordinator to run their successful newly accredited volunteer service in Thurrock. Jacqui Payne, Programme Manager for ngage said “We have an opening for a new volunteer coordinator whose role will be to build on the excellent work that has been achieved to date. We are looking for someone who has experience in working with volunteers, and can support the on-going strategic development of new volunteer services within the Centre”.

But along the cycle lanes of Chafford Hundred, residents and naturalists believe that Thurrock Council have taken things to extremes.

Scouts getting ready for The Gang Show

SCOUTS and Guides from across Thurrock have been rehearsing every Sunday since the beginning of October,and are ready to tread the boards at the Thameside Theatre with their traditional annual “Stride On” Gang Show, which they first staged in 1968.

Correction, two packed audiences, came to the Pegasus Club in Herd Lane, Corringham on Tuesday night (Jan 29th) to hear exactly how the members could save the club from being sold off. The committee told the assembled throng that they had been given notice to quit by the administrators, Price Waterhouse Cooper by June 20th, 2013.

North Stifford WI: Jan report

OVER the last couple of months North Stifford have had an enjoyable time. Our members had a nice day out visiting the Christmas market at Bury St.Edmunds, somewhere we would recommend as not only was the market good and lots of members made purchases but the Cathedral held carol services and the local church was equally impressive especially as serving tea and cakes, but a good time was had by all.

New year, new you volunteering coffee morning

THE ngage Volunteer Centre are holding a ‘New Year, New You’ free drop-in coffee morning for residents on Friday 18th January between 10.30am – 12.30pm at the Beehive, West Street, Grays, Essex. Julie Rawson, Volunteer Coordinator for ngage said “Our New Year, New You Coffee Morning will be a perfect way for residents who are considering volunteering in 2013, to find out more by talking to ngage and other people already volunteering in Thurrock. We will have lots of free cakes and refreshments available, and our coffee mornings are very informal and have a lovely friendly atmosphere”.

Now a website called www.fixmystreet.com may help speed the process by which problems are addressed. You simply log onto the site, detail the problem, attach a photoraph (if you can) and sit back and let the site do the rest.

The 2013 Aveley land-grab may start here

2013 could be the year that the landscape of Aveley changes forever. For years, the campaigning community leaders, residents and councillors have tried to control, petition and negotiate over the possible changes to the area. For some it is a futile, King Canute type exercise. For others it is a vital attempt to prevent a small community, a village in many ways from being engulfed by the town called London which it borders.
