Council say thanks to residents

Those invited put in significant collective volunteer hours of about 20,000 during 2011. Even at minimum wage levels the monetary value of this assistance would be in excess of £120,000 – this is time that people are giving freely to improve the areas they live in.

Progress, development and fresh ideas in Aveley

Our current Youth Centre activities will continue as usual but our workers will now be able to get out and about during the day as well as running specialised training programmes. With all the publicity about our NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training) young people and their needs, it is wonderful to finally be able to do something to help change their lives. The Tudor Trust has a strong base in “Encouraging progress, development and fresh ideas” which nicely fits into what we are trying to achieve in Aveley”

Dozens flock to Ngage volunteer coffee morning

U3A January report

Chairperson, Maggie Whitbread, congratulated all of the committee members and group leaders for a very successful year's work. She reported that 3 new groups had been launched and had thrived: Bread-making, French & German and a Rumicube Group.

Pensioners to hold parliament at council chambers

THURROCK Pensioners are invited to the Thurrock Older Peoples Partnership Board Meeting to be held in the Council Chambers on Tuesday 24th Jan, starting 10am. with the meeting closing at 1pm with refreshments.

Four wards set for community cash injection

A Community First Panel should comprise between 4 – 8 local residents who will need to register their interest on-line with the Community Development Foundation to be recognised. The Panel will then need to work with local residents and partners to produce a Community First Plan and recommend projects/activities to be funded in their ward.

Chadwell forum meets in new year

Annie O'Brien, from Tilbury Riverside Project, will be guest-speaker and she will tell them about the development of the on-line archive for Chadwell St Mary and Tilbury, and how people can help to compile it. They shall also be discussing recent applications for funds and the forum's spring coach-outing for Chadwell residents.

Christmas report from Bulphan WI

Christmas dinner at Hyde Hall got our members in the Christmas spirit and for our meeting, there were many twinkling ladies, bring plates of festive food. Irene Arney was thanked for reading at the Thames Group Carol service, which was in the somewhat isolated and wind-blown St. Catherine’s Church at East Tilbury. Janet McCheyne played the organ, which luckily was audible over the wind!

Hassenbrook pupils spread cheer for the elderly in Stanford-le-Hope

A number of students walked down to the sheltered housing complex at Kynoch Court to sing carols, deliver hampers as well as sit and chat to the borough's more senior residents. The residents were delighted and heaped praise on the students for their wonderful singing and impeccable manners.

Foundations laid for new council housing in the borough
