The suspension came in the same month that Thurrock Council's Head of Communities Simon Black was reported to have stormed out of Thurrock Council after a heated debate regarding the voluntary sector. YourThurrock understands that he has been placed on "special leave" until his retirement in a few weeks. The splits come at a particularly tense time for the voluntary sector as many of the groups put together their bids for future funding.
There is no real-time IT interface between the Council, Vertex and Morrison. The manual system in place has significant limitations. A new IT
system will be in place by February 2011 that will allow the Council and Morrison to have access to the same information and allow real time
management and monitoring. In the mean-time, there will be a lack of real-time performance data until the new system is implemented. Secondly there are a high proportion of repair requests being inaccurately logged as urgent. Morrison have located two technical staff in the Council’s Contact Centre to provide immediate technical support thereby ensuring requests are logged appropriately".

Due to the ongoing weather conditions, the forecast, and the likelihood of government intervention in salt deliveries the council decided to take the prudent step of protecting its supplies of salt as far as possible, something it has done in the two previous winters. Future gritting runs to the reduced routes as laid out in the Winter Maintenance Plan, details of which are available on the council’s website at www.thurrock.gov.uk and by going to “Gritting” via the A to Z.

Essex Savers is regulated by the Financial Services Authority and encourages people to save little and often through community-based credit unions — through direct payments and from their wages.
DECEMBER is a key time for charities. The season of goodwill means that many people think of those less fortunate than them and are willing to dig deep to help. The winter whiteouts has wiped out many key collection and campaigning days for charities such as St Luke's.
MANY have described Ngage as the glue that sticks the Thurrock community together. At Wednesdays's Christmas fayre, you could understand why as the community flocked to the party to enjoy a host of xmas activities at the civic hall.
The board’s aim is to improve people’s well being as they grow older. Matters such as transport, health, housing, and pensions are discussed and fed back to the council to influence future resources and decision-making.
The question is: will we really see the public counter at South Ockendon police station kept open in the evening by volunteers; libraries manned by the public or unoccupied business units re-energised by public?
The production was a spectacular success and this is largely down to the generosity of spirit and time of the countless local people, young and old, who have contributed to the creation of the work over the last 15 months. It truly would not have happened without you.
Thurrock has five new gritting lorries with staff working 12-hour shifts to ensure 24-hour coverage during the worst of the weather. In addition 150 staff — from street cleansing, grounds maintenance and waste collection — with help from the Community payback team cleared snow and ice from town centres and other pedestrian areas.
