Thurrock Council has defended its preparations for the snow on Tuesday morning. Gritting vehicles were out across the borough’s main roads on Monday, twice on Monday night and again on Tuesday morning. The council have made the statement in the light of a number of people contacting YourThurrock complaining at the state of the roads.
The heavy snowfall has meant Thurrock Council has been forced to suspend all waste and recycling collections, today (Tuesday 30 November).
An inspection of road and pavement conditions was carried out at 6am this morning and in order to protect staff, other road users and third party property, the decision to suspend the service was taken.
A new page of Thurrock Council’s website advises residents what can go in each of their three waste and recycling wheelie bins. Everything from aerosols to yoghurt pots and biscuit wrappers to sponges is there. In all there are over 300 different items on the list, just scroll down and see. The major difference to last year is that with the refuse staff now in-house, we may be able to react more quickly to grit the smaller roads and pavements by hand (the council has a limited number of gritting vehicles). The council has more salt in stock now than it used last year and the gritting team has already been out gritting the major routes four times reacting to official Met Office forecasts
