Man acquitted over “Ice-cream war” at Grays Beach Park

AN OCKENDON man has been acquitted of grievous bodily harm in relation to an attack in Grays Beach Park last year. Daniel Trigg (24), Danbury Crescent, South Ockendon, was charged after an incident in July 2012, which left another ice cream man with his arm, reportedly, almost severed by an axe.

Men charged over assaults in Grays

TWO men have been charged in connection with an incident which happened in the car park of a supermarket in Grays in May. Rhys Grant, 18, of Star Lane, London E16, has been charged with one count of assault occasioning ABH and one count of assault by beating.

Aveley taxi driver hit with £1,000 bill after appeal thrown out

MAGISTRATES in Basildon ordered an Aveley taxi driver to pay over £1,000 costs to Thurrock Council after having his appeal thrown out. Robert Knight, 52, of Lowlands Road, had appealed against the February decision of the council’s Licensing Sub-Committee to revoke his Hackney Carriage/Private Hire licence.

School prom stretch limo driver charged

POLICE officers working with council officials checked a number of private hire vehicle in Basildon and Thurrock districts on Friday, July 12, to confirm their compliance with legislation. A total of 86 taxis were checked with 62 having no compliance issues. Five taxis were found to have defective tyres and two of the drivers arranged immediate roadside replacements to allow them to continue working over the weekend.

Witness appeal after vicious assault in Ockendon

POLICE have appealed for information after a man suffered serious injuries in an assault at South Ockendon. The victim was walking alone along Afton Drive, near the junction with Daiglen Drive at about 1.30am on Monday July 8 when he was confronted by a man blocking his path.

Bradley Taylor handed three year sentence after burglary spree

THREE men appeared at Basildon Crown Court on Thursday (July 11) and were sentenced for burglaries, mainly in the Basildon and Grays area, but also across the county. Bradley Taylor, aged 19 from Grays area received a 3 1/2 year prison sentence and Daniel Mallett, aged 21 from the Grays and Clacton areas, received a four year sentence.

Purfleet car-jacking: Third man arrested

A THIRD man has been arrested in connection with an attempted van theft in Purfleet in which a driver was critically injured. The 24-year-old man from Purfleet was arrested at Grays on Wednesday evening July 10. He was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

Grays man in court over suspected £5.8 million VAT fraud

TWO directors of companies associated with the supply of labour to the rail industry have been charged in connection with a suspected VAT and Corporation Tax fraud of more than £5.8 million. After an investigation by HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC), Michael James Woodward (28) from Grays and Richard James Ponsford (35) from Ongar were charged at City of London Magistrates Court today (10 July 2013).

Operation Tourist keeping the roads of Essex safer

ESSEX Police’s determination to enhance road safety in the county continued as another operation to tackle dangerous lorry and coach drivers found one driver forced to take an 11-hour break after being on the road for too long. Operation Tourist was carried at Thurrock’s MOTO Services on Friday, July 5 with 14 lorries and 18 coaches stopped and checked for mechanical roadworthiness and driver hour infringements.

Ockendon mum left traumatised after terrifying attack

The break-in happened at a house near to the junction of Daiglen Drive and Erriff Drive shortly after 10pm on Friday, June 28 when three men entered the property and ransacked it, leaving, after stealing a machete. They did not threaten the woman, who is in her 40s, or her young son.

Essex Police release drink driving results

A TOTAL of 94 drivers were found to be over the limit during Essex Police’s 2013 Summer Anti-Drink Drive campaign. This year’s campaign ran between June and June 30, 2013 and saw officers out in force across the county taking a zero tolerance approach to those who put lives at risk by choosing to drink and drive. Of the 2616 drivers breathalysed during that period, a total of 94 (3.59%) were found to be driving over the legal alcohol limit or refused or failed to provide a sample.

E-fit released of Lakeside muggers

Two 15-year-old schoolboys were approached by two men who threatened them into handing over cash and an iPhone4. The first suspect is white, aged 17 to 18, 6ft 1ins tall, and skinny. He had a big nose and a local accent. The other suspect is white, aged 17 to 19 years, 6ft tall and slim. He had a small head and a spot on one of his cheeks. He was wearing a dark woollen hat with a bobble on.
