QUARRY HILL WAS a whizz of activity on Friday doing something funny for money on behalf of Comic Relief. They raised hundreds that day. Brave teacher Mr Lynn "volunteered" to sit in a bath of baked beans to make sure that hundreds broke through to a thousand.

THESE are radical and fast-changing times in education in Thurrock but for many it illustrates how cutting edge the senior schools have become. But we were fascinated to learn the Gateway Academy as part of its plans to expand to provide primary education plans to apply for "Free School" status.

The onstage events include students competing in college groups in all areas of the performing arts including Drama, Music, Dance and literature. For example Blue College will enter for the solo competition, dance and drama and so on. This onstage competition will see the chairing ceremony of the poetry competition, another strong tradition of the Eisteddfod festival.
THE RUGBY revival in Thurrock continues apace as the Year 8 students at St Clere's won final of the Emerging Schools Essex Cup Final. St Clere’s beat all the regional competition winners including Davenant, Eastlea, Notley High and Trinity Catholic.
THERE WAS a host of activities at Ormiston Park Academy on Red Nose Day 2011 including some fantastic singing down at the drama department. Glee is so popular that many many students were happy to get up on stage and perform.
GETTING out into the community was the key message for the Gateway Academy on Red Nose Day 2011. First lesson was a walk around Chadwell which involves quite a hill up to the Cross Keys roundabout.
CHAFFORD Hundred school, lauded, last year, as the most improved school in the United Kingdom is in danger of having £1.4 million worth of funding for its sixth form centre withdrawn by Thurrock Council.
THE ELITE athletes at St Cleres' school in Stanford-le-Hope recently learned how wheelchair athletes developed their skills in a fascinating seminar at the school. Gordon Perry, National Development Manager for Wheelchair Basketball, National League Champion, former GB representative and winner of the first Wheelchair marathon took the session.
The Jack Petchey Foundation celebration evening was held at the Civic Hall last week to showcase and celebrate the amazing young talent in Thurrock. We spoke to guest speaker, Div Commander of Thurrock police, Ch Insp Paul Moor and portfolio holder for childrens services, cllr Diana Hale about the value of the awards.
The two-week festival will be made up of off stage and on stage events. Each subject will set its pupils a task or challenge in which to complete. Entries will be collected and points awarded to each pupils for entering, 1st, 2nd and 3 prize winners will be awarded points to the respective colleges.
YT's Mike Jones went down to the Gateway Academy to speak to students, employers and staff about the benefits of the day. The students were able to tell us about what they learnt; what was a positive experience and what they feel are their development needs.
THEY ARE a dedicated lot at Quarry Hill primary. Even over half term they are out and about learning. However, this time there was an incentive to rub shoulders and aprons with celebrity cook, Anthony Worrall-Thompson at IKEA.
