Thurrock Network Group go from strength to strength

WE HAVE to admit that YT does not attend the monthly Thurrock Network Group meetings as often as we like. Trouble is 7am to 10am is when we are most likely to be tied to our desks. Nevertheless, the Thurrock Network Group meet once a month, every Thursday at the Thurrock Business Centre in George Street, Grays (8am kick off).

Rice to the top as Wincanton win Tilda contract

WINCANTON has won a six-year warehousing and distribution contract with one of the country's leading producers of Basmati rice, Tilda. The logistics firm will collect the rice from Tilda's two production sites and transport it to Wincanton's shared-user facility in West Thurrock.

Budding young builders reach new heights at Lakeside

INTU Lakeside lifted the spirits of a group of construction-mad youngsters last week when they were given the chance to ‘drive’ one of Europe’s largest cranes. With a 138 meter boom and the ability to lift up to 600 tons, the adventurous youngsters got to see the monster piece of machinery up close and sit at the controls.

Grays man banned from acting as director after Insolvency investigation

ADRIAN Antonie Parson, director of Quantum Solutions (Kent) Limited, a payroll company in Grays, has been banned from acting as a director for six years for failing to keep proper accounts, following an investigation by The Insolvency Service. Mr Parson, 40, has given an undertaking to the Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills that he will not act as a director of a limited company from 24 April 2013 to April 2019.

Boris likes what he sees in Dubai as model for London Gateway

THE Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, today (April 16) visited Jebel Ali Port and was welcomed by Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Chairman, DP World, who explained to the Mayor how DP World’s massive London Gateway port and logistics park project, modelled on Jebel Ali, will bring savings to UK supply chains. During their meeting and tour of the port, Mr Johnson was briefed on the technology-driven operational efficiencies that have placed Jebel Ali among the top ten container ports globally and the world-class infrastructure that DP World is putting in place at London Gateway, which is on target to open for business in the fourth quarter of 2013.

Jane gains by winning Grays shopping centre Facebook competition

IT WAS a big LIKE from Grays Shopping Centre to Grays resident, Jane Reynolds this week after Jane won their Facebook competition. Grays Shopping Centre recently held a Facebook Competition, where shoppers had to check in online between Friday 15th February and 15th March to be in with a chance of winning a brand new iPod touch.

A13 at Manorway. Sliproad to re-open but Stanford Road to close

To ensure commuters are safe, during major work on the bridge structure, the A13 will be diverted, taking traffic up the junction’s slip roads and back down onto the A13. The majority of this work will take place between Friday 12 April and 6 May and will see the diversion in place all weekends from 20.00 on Fridays until 5.00 on Mondays and on most weeknights from 20.00 until 5.00.

Survey to assess broadband needs in Thurrock

THE SOUTH East LEP is carrying out a survey of businesses across its area to develop a clear picture of the scale and economic impact of poor or no mobile phone coverage. Concerns about areas of poor or no mobile phone coverage, known as cold spots, where people have been unable to make or receive calls are among the issues businesses regularly raise with SELEP.

Lakeside HMV among those saved from closure

HMV's Lakeside store is among those those marked for rescue after restructuring firm Hilco signed a £50m rescue deal to save 141 HMV stores across the UK. The firm signed a rescue deal this morning which will save 141 of the 230 HMV stores across the UK, including nine Fopp outlets.

Wind turbines go green in Tilbury

ALL four turbines at the Port of Tilbury Wind Farm have now been fully installed by SSE Renewables. The first turbine has started generating electricity. Each turbine has a capacity of 2.3MW and the wind farm is capable of supplying up to 50% of the port's electricity needs.

Thurrock BNI do the Harlem Shake!

IN case you wondered, the Harlem Shake is an Internet meme in the form of a video in which a group of people performs a comedy sketch accompanied by a short excerpt from the song "Harlem Shake". As a meme, the video was replicated by many people, using the same concept, and this rapidly led to it becoming viral in early February 2013 with thousands of "Harlem Shake" videos being made and uploaded to YouTube every day at the height of its popularity.

TIGER scheme sees investment burning brightly in Thurrock

THURROCK Council has been working with its partners across the Thames in Kent to bring new jobs and investment into the area. That was the message from the launch of the TIGER – Thames Gateway Innovation, Growth and Enterprise – scheme in Thurrock on Friday (22 March).
