Rugby: Thurrock tough it out in March snow

THE WINTER weather descended on Oakfield on Saturday and played a major part in the result although Thurrock can only take part of the blame for a rather lacklustre first half performance. The playing surface already wet was made worse by the snow falling during the game. The visitors set there stool out early in the game keeping the ball close to hand for long periods of play hardly moving the ball outside the fly half, but there hardworking forwards were rewarded with three tries only one of which was converted. However Thurrock did keep on the score sheet thanks to the reliable boot of Frankie Neale who landed a penalty.

Hockey: Tough day for Thurrock against strong Colchester

THURROCK started this match with only 10 men and were behind after only three minutes as Colchester attacked in force. Once at full strength, Thurrock held the visitors and moved the ball up the pitch, however a strong Colchester defence cut out the threat and forced Thurrock backwards. A well-practiced short corner routine resulted in two more goals to Colchester by half time. Thurrock revised their formation in the second half with Neil Donovan moving to centre forward and this allowed Luke Strudwick to make a series of runs up the wing and centre the ball for Olu Akinwande to force the keeper into some last-minute saves.

Boxing: Controversial defeat for Hibbert

The bout offered blow by blow entertainment and wow what a fight! Both fighters were swinging away at each other through the whole 10 rounds, I don’t know how either of them were still standing by the end of it, but they certainly both had their eye on the prize. Wayne Hibbert lived up to his nickname ‘John Wayne’ by coming out to the ring with the air of confidence John Wayne always had in his movies, he was focused and looked at the top of his game.

Rugby: Thurrock cowed by strong Guernsey performance

THURROCK took a large contingent of supporters over to Guernsey at the weekend – but the team failed to spark on the pitch - losing 39-19. There was nearly no rugby at all when the referee’s plane was turned back. Luckily a substitute was found on the island - but, unluckily for T’s, one of the borough’s props was on the affected flight.
