Hockey: Thurrock whipped by Witham

With no recognised keeper, youngster Luke Strudwick volunteered to don the kit. The home take had the first push back and attacked strongly, however defender Neil Donovan made a timely tackle and quickly moved the ball up for Dave Everett to beat two players before passing to Michael Fleming to dribble into the area and hammer the ball past the keeper for the lead after 10 minutes.

Rugby: Stanford’s 13 win local derby against Palmerians

ON a crisp fresh Saturday inform Pegasus travelled the few miles to play the local derby against Stanford. These games are always a tense and tight affair but earlier in the season Pegasus had taught the Stanford team a lesson in how to play rugby and that still hurt so the Stanford players were ready to show the supporters what they were made of.

MP pledges support for Stanford and Corringham carnival

STEPHEN Metcalfe, local MP for South Basildon and East Thurrock, showed his support for the Stanford and Corringham Carnival Association when he attended their spring dance and presentation evening last weekend. The Association hold a number of events throughout the year to raise money for some extremely worthy local causes - this year’s beneficiaries are Holiday Homes for the Handicapped, First Responders and ‘Blu’s nu-shoes’.

Boxing: Chadwell boys go through the rounds

Davey won his bout by a unanamous decision. Davey is a very fit boxer and has learnt to come forward enabaling him to mix it up in bouts by sitting on his back foot and using his strength against his opponents when needed. Next up on the same London Show was Klayden Russell-Meade 12yrs 34kg who boxed against A Ishfaq from Southend A.B.C.

Hockey: It is the beautiful game as Thurrock beat Southend

A few chances for both sides lead to some hairy moments but Thurrock drew first blood. A short corner was awarded and it finally paid off! after weeks of messing up short corner after short corner...one finally went in! Kyle Taylor dragged out firmly to his brother Jak Taylor who pushed it slightly into the D where Tommy Ing stepped up and fired home through the legs of the Southend Keeper. 1-0 to Thurrock.

Rugby: Thurrock played so well, came away with nothing

Thurrock started off so well, with tries from James Flavin and Nathan Farrell both duly converted by Frankie Neale who also added a penalty for a 17-0 lead. With this start it looked at last that the effort and commitment shown in the last couple of weeks it started to pay dividends, but the visitors edged into the match with a converted try and a penalty to reduce the defecit to 7 until Neale again added a further penalty right on the stroke of half time for the home side to lead 20-10

Hockey: All the fours for the thirds

Thurrock continued to have the majority of the ball after the break and Akinwande soon extended their lead by converting a pass by Luke Strudwick. A long range shot from Redbridge should have been easily cleared, however, a defender was caught in possession and the ball was smashed into the back of the net. From the restart, Akinwande dribbled up the field before finding Michael Fleming on the edge of the D who rounded the keeper before shooting into the goal. Thurrock continued to have the majority of possession but increasingly found their passes going astray.

CORRINGHAM’S Emily Scott came close to scoring for England in the RBS Womens Six Nations clash with France on Saturday.The Thurrock Ladies star was just millimetres away from touching down but she was tackled just before the line.

Thameside lacemakers weave magic in Chafford

THAMESIDE Lacemakers holds a lace day from 10am to 4pm at Chafford Hundred Hall, in Drake Road on Saturday, March 2. The event is free to visit, although it is £5 if you wish to stay for the day.In attendance will be representatives of Makit Lace and there will be a talk by Celia Reed in the afternoon.

Hockey: Bad news as Wapping edge Thurrock

AGAINST a strong Wapping team, were under heavy pressure from the start and defenders Ethan Pinion, Chris Smith and George McAllister had to work hard. Gradually Thurrock got into the game and the midfield of Tom Archer, Ricky Smith, Mat Skinner, George Horgan and Jo Harvey performed some slick passes to move the ball up the pitch and threaten the home side.
