THERE is a cruel irony in the weather scuppering plans for Christmas fairs but nevertheless, it has put the kybosh on a number of events throughout the borough. Last night (Thursday) the Corringham winter fayre was restricted to being indoors.
Leatherland Lodge in South Ockendon, Carolyne House, Bennet Lodge in Chadwell St Mary and Whitecroft on the Stanford Road all saw an all hands on deck mentality as the temperature plunged below zero and the roads became inpassable.

This represents the impact of education on wages and employment chances and the ‘wage scar’ over a lifetime. In the East of England, one in ten 16-to-24-year-olds leave school without qualifications.
All of the money that was raised from the evening will be used to refuel the Youth Cabinet’s, Youth Opportunity Fund. The purpose of the Youth Opportunity Fund is to provide young people with the financial support to run projects of their own. This is without a doubt a brilliant service that the Youth Cabinet provide and highlights once again what a brilliant asset they are to Thurrock!!
he Read report commissioned by the Forestry Commission GB suggests that if woodland cover was to increase from 12 per cent to 16 per cent of land cover, abatement from woodlands planted since 1990 would, potentially, amount to 15Mt CO2 per year by the 2050s; this would be equivalent to 10 per cent of the UK's total GHGs emissions at that time, if current reduction targets are met. The abatement that could be achieved is highly sensitive to the level and timing of woodland creation and would be delivered through a combination of sequestration in forest biomass and wood products, renewable energy production and wood products displacing more carbon-intensive materials such as brick, steel and concrete.
Hibbert, from Stanford Le Hope, has even temporarily moved in with landlord Jim Cosentino at the pub as he guns for a top title. The young professional, who joined the paid ranks two years ago, has been boxing since he was just 10, and has proven pedigree, having won national schoolboy titles during his younger days.
