ALEX Lawler was one of the mainstays of theatrical productions in Gable Hall. Alex is now at Palmer's where he is studying Drama. In between all that he has written a play for the Thurrock Youth Theatre that will be performed at the Thameside this week. We dropped in at rehearsals to speak to Alex about how he wrote the script and his plans for the future.
Rocks gave away a three goal lead to draw when these sides met at Rookery Hill earlier in the season and they ended that match ruing their misfortune. This time they secured all the points but will possibly worry a little that they didn’t stamp their authority on the match well before the 77th minute winner. They set their stall out with some near interplay as early as the first minute with a move that ended with Reiss Gilbey shooting wide.
Cirencester broke the deadlock in the 31st minute. Junior Baker was harshly adjudged to have fouled just outside the box. Jamie Reid floated over the free kick and striker Jody Bevan rose above the Grays defence to head Cirencester into the lead. It was this point that the referee Chris O'Donnell started to make his presence felt and like his namesake he seemed intent on "robin" Grays of victory as time after time he made a series of baffling decisions.
East Thurrock continue their fine run of form as they grab all three points at Cheshunt while Grays are dumped out of the FA Trophy at home versus Cirencester.
The team are ready and waiting to clear an area near you. If you know of anywhere that needs some community free payback, whether litter picking or gardening to painting etc the please contact them.

A spokesperson for Thurrock Council said ":An appeal against the Enforcement Notice was received last week. It isanticipated that a decision will not be made in relation to that appeal until some time in 2011. Until the appeal is decided, the council is not empowered to take any formal action against the breach of planning control.
For the first time in four years Thurrock were able to field a fourth men’s side for this friendly against Upminster VI who normally play in NE14HOCKEY Div 9. Upminster made the early pace and went into the lead after only 10 minutes. Thurrock gradually got used to playing together and a run up the right by Harry Holloway produced a cross for veteran Dave Shatwell, making a welcome return after a year out due to illness, to shoot just wide.
I further believe the councillors are guilty of scare mongering by claiming "Some estimates say that should Howard Tenens be allowed to remain on the site and expand 1000 heavy goods vehicles will be visiting the site daily". The councillors do not reveal the source of the "estimates" are they their own or is it a figure they have plucked from the air without any foundation whatsoever? Even if there were any truth to the "estimates" residents would not be affected as the site entrance would have been moved to a more appropriate location.
Sgt Anna Brennan added: “Lakeside is and always has been a safe place to shop, and with the additional police resources in place through Operation
Christmas Presence, we can not only reassure shoppers of this safety, but also send out a robust message to criminals that they are not welcome here.”
Paul Lancaster, general manager at Lakeside Shopping Centre, said: “With late opening hours, Lakeside is the perfect place to shop this Christmas. Throughout December, we’ll be offering our popular, free Shop & Drop where shoppers can securely drop their bags off at the desk on Level 1 by Next, and then collect them later by car from an outside collection point on their way home.”
IT has taken a long time but at last the village of Aveley has its own community centre. Members of the community forum have always been particularly pro-active and passionate so it was always a matters of when and not if.
Dave Smith manager of the team said ‘The boys are grateful for the new kit as the old one was coming up to three years old and the lads are a bit bigger now! This group of lads has been together since they were 5 years old and the core of the team still has the same individuals – it is great to see their commitment to training and playing rewarded by the generous donation’
Pixie lit up the store window - which was covered in fairy lights that spelt out her name - then posed for photographs and greeted her fans. She then signed personal autographs for 100 lucky shoppers who had purchased items from the Lipsy store in Lakeside earlier that day.
