Kris Akabusi stars at William Edwards

Students from William Edwards secondary school had some extra special visitors in the form of olympic champions, Kris Akabusi and Jamie Baulch. As part of their ‘SuperSchools Project’, Kris and Jamie spent the day inspiring the students to ‘be the best that they can be’. It was clear from the energy in the room that the students all thoroughly enjoyed the event and found these Olympic Champions truly captivating.

Police seek man in green car after several incidents near schools

In the first incident on November 23 a boy riding a bike was smacked on the bottom as he cycled past a man who got out of a green Ford Focus on Victoria Avenue, Grays. Two girls reported being watched by a man, in a green Mondeo, outside their school in Ward Avenue, Grays on November 24 and police have received a third hand report that a man driving a green Ford Focus approached a girl near Grays School but was chased off by older students from the school.

Two children knocked down in Chadwell

Two young children were knocked down by a Ford Galaxy. The two young children who are 7 and 5 years of age received serious injuries in the collision and were taken to the Royal London Hospital. The driver of the blue Ford Galaxy was arrested at the scene and taken into police custody.

Councillors support pay cut for top bosses

Proposing his motion, Cllr St Clair-Haslam said: “We are in extraordinary times and each and every one of us in this Council is responsible for the financial situation we are in. Taking this cut would show Mr Farrant and all senior staff recognise the importance of taking responsibility and ownership of this financial crisis.

Leader of the council John Kent welcomed Tunde to the role. He said: "Naturally I would have wanted Yash to be deputy mayor but Tunde you are regarded as one of the nicest and hardest working councillors in the borough and we are sure you will do a fine job."

T-shirts of hurt mark domestic violence week

THIS week is the start of 10 Days of Action to end violence against women and on Tuesday 23rd November, Thurrock Women’s Aid held a visual display to remember the 100 women who are killed each year due to domestic abuse. The clothes line project is a visual display of t-shirts with graphic messages and illustrations that have been designed by survivors of violence or by friends and families of survivors.

Thameside Juniors: Moving on up swiftly after given “Notice to improve” by Ofsted

A sound start has been made to addressing the areas of weakness from the last inspection. Staff have been united by incisive leadership and share the same drive for improvement. Subject leaders adopt a more systematic approach to their leadership role than previously and are beginning to share with the senior staff the evaluation of monitoring of teaching and learning in their subject areas. However, monitoring of the support for pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities is not yet in place.

Snow plan for Thurrock

The major difference to last year is that with the refuse staff now in-house, we may be able to react more quickly to grit the smaller roads and pavements by hand (the council has a limited number of gritting vehicles). The council has more salt in stock now than it used last year and the gritting team has already been out gritting the major routes four times reacting to official Met Office forecasts

MP questions Thurrock’s benefits system

Ms Price said: My constituent Nigel Freeman has suffered a very aggressive bout of cancer, and his best efforts to re-enter the world of work have been frustrated by the operation of the benefits system. Can my hon. Friend assure me that she will end the "one size fits all" approach to health conditions, so that people no longer find themselves trapped on benefits?

MP questions support for Visteon

He said: "I like many other hon. Members, have been contacted by a number of constituents whose pension provision has been seriously affected by the collapse of the former Ford UK parts manufacturer, Visteon. Will the Secretary of State meet me to explore how we might best help those who have been most adversely affected?

Benny’s lighting up Hollywood panto!

FORMER Ormiston Park Academy teacher Benny Harris is lighting up Hollywood as he stars in Nigel Lythgoes' Cinderella at the El Portal theatre in North Hollywood from November 27-December 19, 2010. Benny from Purfleet has been over in Hollywood for a number of years now, nurturing a successful career. In Cinderella he plays Buttons alongside Broadway and stars from films such as Harry Potter.

Palmer’s students in tune at prestigious conference

A student choir from Palmer’s College, Grays, were in fine tune when they performed in front an international audience this week at a conference organised by the World Federation of Colleges and Polytechnics.
