Masons give standing support for stroke patients

The QuickMove standing aid, worth £1,650, supports patients rising from a sitting position, moving between beds and chairs and going to the toilet. The equipment was presented to staff on Lister Ward by members of the Provincial Grand Chapter of Essex, in memory of a friend, Michael Johnson, who passed away earlier this year.

“Be clear about your symptoms” – new lung cancer campaign in Thurrock

Lung cancer affects 33,000 people nationally each year with almost 1,060 cases in Essex. The majority of cases occur in people over the age of 55. In Essex there are almost 920 deaths a year - but more lives can be saved if lung cancer is spotted and diagnosed early. When diagnosed at its earliest stage, as many as 80% of people are alive five years after diagnosis compared with only 7% diagnosed at a late stage.

Enhancing care for patients with dementia

DIST is one of the measures Basildon University Hospital has put in place, as an increasingly ageing population brings a rise in the number of inpatients with dementia. The Trust’s dementia strategy was officially launched today (Tuesday 22 May) to mark National Dementia Week (20-26 May), with each ward receiving a pack outlining the Trust’s strategy, policies and care pathways.

It folds down to the size of a laptop and its portability means patients can have an ultrasound there and then, which can speed up treatment.

The minor injuries unit at Orsett Hospital is open 10 am to 7.30pm Monday to Sunday. The department treats, wounds, sprains, some broken bones, burns, scalds, minor head injuries.

The core of Mr Brand's testimony was that drug addiction was and is an illness and should be treated as such.

Ambulance service comes to the aid of young Essex footballer

East of England Ambulance NHS Trust (EEAST) medics were sent to East Thurrock Football Club at 7.59pm after an EEAST call handler correctly diagnosed that the 17-year-old had fractured his leg.
