Athletics: Thurrock Harriers delighted at plate victory

THURROCK Harriers young athletes took part in the EYAL plate final today at Jarmens athletic track Hemel Hempstead, after taking on some big clubs such as Basildon and Chelmsford throughout the season to earn their place they made it comfortably in the plate final.

Thurrock athletes continue to impress at home and abroad.

THURROCK athletes have been putting in a number of impressive performances both at home and abroad. Former Grays Convent student, Jessica Judd once again went under 2 mins in a high class 800 metres at Monaco in the Diamond League. Jessica was initially disappointed with her position but once she discovered she had got under 2 mins again (1.59.92) she was delighted.

Athletics: Lawless medals in 15 mile champs

THE first ever National Vets off-road 15 mile championship took place in Bewl, Sussex on Sunday. Pat Dobbs took a rare defeat in the V75 age group but managed a silver medal. On a very hilly woodland course he recorded 2h27m. Don Lawless, in the V45 age group, took a bronze medal with an excellent time of 1h44m45s – a sign that he is in great form.

Athletics: Triumph for Hayley at British Champs

THURROCK hurdler, Hayley McLean made a huge leap in her athletics career when she grabbed the bronze medal for the 400 metre hurdles at the British Champs at Birmingham. 19-year-old Hayley produced a great run on the home straight to medal in a personal best time of 56.43.

Athletics: Harriers show strength away in Southern League

THURROCK’S senior athletes fought hard in their Southern Athletics League round 3 match. It was held at the spectacular Allianz Stadium, Hendon and after five hours of competition the team took a comfortable 2nd place behind the hosts Barnet with Shaftesbury Harriers but in front of the Vale of Aylesbury and West Norfolk.
