The Aveley Youth Falcons under-9's have won the Mercury Division of the Thundermite league for the 2011/2012 season. They won with two games in hand after a very successful season.
Steve Prosser, who has been injured for most of the winter, finished 415 in the 37,000 competitors. His time of 2h 47m16s was outside his pb but a remarkable performance given his unpromising preparation. After his usual cautious start Scott Rice moved smoothly through to an excellent pb of 2hr49m58s just missing a place in the top 500.
Ockendon's Tony Brown ran for Children with Cancer UK. We had featured Tony a few weeks ago and all that training was worth it as he finished in 4.44.47. Grays woman Amy Trencher also had a fantastic marathon. Running for Coleaic UK, she ran a very swift 3hrs 55.39.
Tilbury did not give up scoring the important equaliser and Matthews headed just over from a Webb cross. Tilbury were rewarded with only 2 minutes remaining when a ball was played into the box and Tom Webb stabbed home to the delight of the home supporters. In a tense finish, both sides had half chances to take the maximum points and Tilbury were delighted to hear the final whistle.
The opening goal came in the fourth minute out of nothing and left Rocks keeper Jamie Riley red-faced. The ball was played back to him by Matt Hall and he attempted to control it but it bobbled over his foot and rolled embarrassingly into the net.
GRAYS ATHLETIC fans were celebrating qualifying for the Ryman Div One North play offs after beating Waltham Abbey 1-0 at Cappershotts.
Grays started brightly with heat interlinking play. Kenny Beaney was working box to box. Jaoa Carlos looked sprightly as well. In the 7th minute he skipped a tackle and the Abbey player was lucky to not receive a caution.
Samuel Ekunole and Tyler came 2nd and 3rd respectively for taking part in the U15 shot putt and Tyler Chu improved his pb in Javelin which he set last week with a throw of 19.52m and proving that the javelin is becoming a successfull event for the Harrier squad, Alice Martin also threw a pb of 19.79 and Lucy Jewel in yet another event throwing a seasons best of 16.74m.
In the end East Thurrock’s first half endeavours saw them through to a rare league double over their derby rivals but it was a bizarre and fraught victory for their fans – who are growing accustomed to seeing their side throw away commanding leads.
How influential that decision was is left to conjecture, but Collis is the engine room of Blues’ success and the experienced head that has guided them through many a potential crisis.
The result leaves Tilbury needing a single point in their final 2 games to confirm a playoff berth. The play off fixtures will not be known until the final Saturday of the season due to the closeness of the sides.
