Thurrock detective to run London marathon in memory of grandmother

Dc Jenna Potter, who works as a detective in Thurrock, is hoping to raise a significant amount of money to honour her Grandmother Rose White, who died as a result of the disease in 2010 at the age of 79. Jenna, who worked for seven years as a police officer in Basildon and Laindon before moving over to Thurrock, grew up in Basildon, and was extremely close to Rose, who was a pillar of the Basildon community.

More than 200 pupils at the school took part in their own sponsored activities in aid of Sport Relief. Headteacher Tess Walker said: "we are absolutely delighted to have so many influential sportsmen and women here today. They are helping to raise awareness and as much money as they can for Sport Relief."

He is planning a number of other events including a bake sale at his workplace in Central London where he works as a Billing Controller for a Marketing and Advertising company and he has also setup an online fundraising page where he has received a large number of donations from friends and family. Sports Relief mile next weekend at Belhus

The day will incorporate the mile event itself where participants can take part in a 1, 3 or 6 mile challenge, followed by a fun fair style day with such attractions as bouncy castles, gladiator battles, fun fair games, music, penalty shootout competition and much more.

Music all-dayer at Burtons on Saturday in aid of Thurrock Mind

SOME of the best bands and artistes from the area will be performing at Burtons in Grays this weekend as part of a twelve-hour all-dayer in aid of Thurrock MIND. The day kicks off at midday. Entry is £5 and all proceeds go to MIND.

Firefighters on the pull to help Reece walk

The crew pulled the fire engine more than five miles from the station in Corringham to the centre of neighbouring Stanford-le-Hope collecting money all the way. In total the crew have already raised £2,310 with more sponsorship money yet to be collected.

Help feed local people in crisis

“The current economic climate means that more and more households are struggling to put food on the table, so we really need local people to give what they can to help,” says Victoria Windus, who is leading the Thurrock foodbank project team. “We are working hard to get Thurrock foodbank started and aim to be up and running by the summer. This is our first food collection, so please do come along to support us and give generously.”

Bowmen Raise Funds for The Air Ambulance

The West Essex Bowmen are raising funds for Essex Air Ambulance . The Belhus Park based group are holding an event at Belhus on the weekend of April (28th & 29th) There is a bit of history in this; in that one of their members was rescued after collapsing a few years ago from the country park and so the AA holds a very special place in their hearts.

New 5p campaign to help BATIAS

This campaign will take the form of home collection boxes, which are designed to be receptacles for loose change, particularly 5p’s, which according to many surveys, is the one coin everybody loves to hate – and so the idea behind this scheme is that BATIAS will willingly take them off your hands! When full, the boxes will hold around £20, and if enough people get behind this initiative, it will be a real boost to our fundraising efforts.

IT HAS BECOME quite a site and quite a tradition now as women and a few men adorn either stilettos or slippers and embark on a charity walk at Lakeside shopping centre.

New rotary club launches in Thurrock

They explained the objects of Rotary and spent time answering many questions in connection with the formation of a new club and the ‘bigger’ Rotary picture involving local and International fundraising projects and closer to home local business networking opportunities. It is proposed this new ‘twilight’ club will meet on Mondays at 7pm in the future, the next meeting being Monday 6th February 2012.

Starlight and Slipper set for Saturday walk at Lakeside

Walk in memory of a loved one, walk for someone you know has been helped by St Luke’s Hospice or just walk for fun - Men are also welcome to take part; we had a great group of men last year who also dressed up to raise funds!
