Community joy at St John’s Street party

SUNDAY saw the Annual John St Street Party, due to the forecast of storms most of it was moved inside the All Saints Centre. This year’s theme was Community Games and to bridge the communities in the area there was food from different nationalities, Indian, Chinese, Italian and English.

Thurrock Bins: Council notice on recycling the street bins

OVER the coming weeks Thurrock Council will be making it even easier for people to recycle their waste. The council will be installing dual – recycling and other waste – bins around the borough, mainly close to shopping areas. The recycling section of the bin is blue – maintaining the link with the blue recycling bin for kerbside collections.

Indian Village Garden opened in Aveley

FAMILIES from Aveley and Ockendon enjoyed an afternoon of celebration at the official opening of the Indian Village garden at Aveley Children's Centre recently. Cllr Tony Fish, Mayor for Thurrock, was at the event and was introduced to all who had made this project possible, including the parents, carers and volunteers who donated homemade cakes for this fun filled Garden Tea Party.

“Cash-less” buses could be coming to Thurrock

BUSES in London are considering going “cash-less” and that could affect three routes in Thurrock. Thurrock Council is supporting the Transport for London (TfL) consultation on the proposals. The three routes are the 370 - Romford to Lakeside (via Ockendon) – the 372 - Hornchurch to Lakeside (via Aveley) – and the 347 - Romford to Ockendon.

Advice and help at Older People’s Day

THURROCK Council’s housing team is organising an Older People’s Day later this month, offering help and advice. The aim of the day – between 11am and 3pm at the Dexter Close Sheltered Housing complex, Dexter Close, Grays, on Wednesday, 25 September – is to provide information about who does what in the community and what services are available for older people.

Intu Lakeside submit £100 million leisure development application

THE exciting new leisure development will create a series of outdoor spaces, the focal point of which will be a large town square around which a wide range of new leisure and restaurant uses will be provided over two levels. The public spaces will host an exciting events programme which may include farmers’ and Christmas markets, street theatre, music shows and live screenings of big sporting events throughout the year.

Foster carers wanted

THURROCK Council is planning on bucking the national trend and increasing the number of its foster carers, launching a new recruitment. The campaign will focus on drop-in sessions throughout the borough over the next six months and an advertising campaign that focuses on caring.
