INTU Lakeside hosted its annual recruitment fair this weekend with temporary and permanent roles at the shopping centre on offer for all. It was the 10th year of the recruitment fair – hosted by the centre’s on-site agency, C&C Recruitment - and once again it was a popular event with over 2,500 job hunters in attendance.
JACK And The Beanstalk will be making a Giant return to the Thameside Theatre this Christmas and is guaranteed to be Fe, Fi, Foe, Fun for the whole family. The Thameside Theatre has built an amazing reputation for delivering first class entertainment and the tale of Jack’s quest to Giant Blunderbore’s castle looks set to break all previous box office records. The Pantomime will open on Friday 6 December 2013 and run until Sunday 5 January 2014.
A PLANNING appeal in relation to an application made by a Stanford-le-Hope demolition company Squibb will be heard on Wednesday. The inquiry, which could last two days is at the Civic Offices, New Road, Grays.
THE incident occurred in February when the two 15-year-old volunteers accompanied by council trading standards officers attempted to buy alcohol from nine local stores. Only one – Essex mini Market in Grover Walk – actually sold alcohol, a bottle of WKD Original Vodka Purple, and also offered to open the bottle for the young people.

A LOCAL building firm will be providing a helping hand for the Macmillan Cancer Support ‘World’s Biggest Coffee Morning’ on Friday 27 September. The South Ockendon Centre in Derry Avenue is hosting a coffee morning with a twist as local builders HW Wilson – the firm which carried out the refurbishment of the centre earlier this year - have volunteered to serve the drinks and homemade cakes to everyone who comes along on the day.
ST MARY'S, Dock Road, Little Thurrock has an interesting collection of old photos of the church and church hall and the people who have used them.
They have an old picture of the hall as a school 100 years ago and have some school attendance records. There are plans for the extension that the Victorians added to the church and a photograph of a lady wearing a crinoline. She is standing in front of the church before the porch and west end extensions were added to it.
A RECORD-breaking 150 children turned up for the auditions and Darren Maddison, Producer of Polka Dot Pantomimes, alongside Director Lorinda King and Choreographer Vicky Bushell were very impressed with the high level of ability from all the youngsters.
ROADWORKS have begun on Dock Road, between the Asda roundabout and the Tilbury Sport and Social Club. The improvement works will be on-going until early December.
CHAIR Joy Ridgewell welcomed Chadwell Forum Chairman Peter Saunders and his wife Carol who presented the group with a cheque for a grant of £400. This is a very welcome addition to our funds as we are off to a writing weekend at Riskin College in Oxford this weekend and this will greatly help with our expenses. Thanks was given to Tina Thompson who has been instrumental in arranging for this weekend.

THURROCK Marching Brass are proud to confirm Paul Grundy as Vice President of the organisation. Paul and his wife Jill have been involved in Marching Bands for over 35 years and were the successful leaders of the well known and respected Blue Ambassadors Drum & Bugle Corps. A Corps that many of the staff at TMB had the privilege to play a part in also including Chairman, Paul Morgan and Corps Director, Darren Crisp. Paul’s appointment serves to strengthen the organisations input and guidance where Paul will act as an important advisor and council to the board.
A FEMALE reverend has been appointed as the new Archdeacon of Southend. The Rev Mina Smallman began her new role in a special service at Chelmsford Cathedral.
