She introduced the speaker, who happened to be her adoptive daughter, Fatima Whitbread C.B.E. who gave a fascinating and moving account of her unhappy relationship with her birth parents in Stoke Newington, North London and her tug of war between her abusive mother and the Social Services. After being moved from one care home to another she eventually came under the care of a Mr. and Mrs. Smith who were in charge of a social care home unit in Belhus Park.

Our Speaker and entertainer was Brian Carline, Headmaster, Author, Broadcaster and stand up comedian. He gave an amusing insight into his life as a teacher in schools and locations in this country. After a finger buffet Ron Goldsmith again took to the stage as the leader of the ukulele group, supported by guest artistes from The George Formby Society, leading the audience in a 'singalong'.
Mayor of Thurrock, Cllr Yash Gupta — himself a volunteer — helped mark national Volunteers’ Week by presenting certificates to the volunteers who support council services at The Civic Offices in Grays.
According to Labour, the community forum was invited to a council Lets Talk event in Chafford Hundred in December where the chief executive, council leader and portfolio holders were available to answer questions on Devonshire Road but the forum failed to attend.
Women were regarded as property of first their fathers and then their husbands and it was rare they were allowed to own anything: an exception being when they were married, if they received a gift from their husband that was theirs to keep or dispose of as they wished without asking permission. Even the children were the property of the husband.
