Hundreds flock to big lunch at Grays Town Park

HUNDREDS of families enjoyed the summer sunshine at Grays Town Park as Thurrock Council threw a great big lunch. As you can see from the film, families relaxed, children played on what was a wonderfully organised event. A number of organisations were also on hand to profer advice and guidance on a number of issues.

New “green” car park for Linford Methodist Church

On Sunday, MP Stephen Metcalfe attended a service which culminated in the opening of their new car park. With funds from the Thurrock Thames Gateway Development Corporation (DC) and Veoila, the church have been able to lay an ecologically sound car park. Rev Rosemary Pritchard held a short ceremony before the ribbons were cut.

Making Ockendon a safer place

OVER THE next year, YT plans to make a series of films across all the wards in the borough,where we focus on the services provided (or otherwise) for the residents. This film focuses on what the council and councillors do to try and make the ward of Ockendon a safer place.

Stanford Music Festival a triumph

LET THE music speak for itself. The Stanford Music Festival was once again a triumph and a credit to all who put such a lot of hard work in. Special mention has to go to Terry Piccolo and the team at the Stanford Community Forum.

Magic secret garden opens at Sunshine Centre

IT ONLY seemed fitting that one of the first duties for mayor, cllr Charlie Curtis to perform was the opening of a new play area at the Sunshine Centre in Civic Square, Tilbury. The bouncy play area is a wonder to behold. YT spoke to the mayor and centre manager Sarah Allen about the work that went into the area and the benefits to the children.

Chadwell Fete say thanks to the community

And we would like to express our gratitude to all those businesses and organisations locally who donated raffle prizes, details of which will, be posted on www.chadwellcf.org.uk for the next twelvemonth. Thanks also to the Mayor of Thurrock, Cllr Charles Curtis, and to Mrs Curtis, for attending and speaking; to Bill and his team of Grays First Responders, to P.C. Singleton for taking the trouble to change his shift to be able to come along during the afternoon, and to Sarah and her team from St John Ambulance for providing first-aid cover.

Stanford Festival this Sunday

The Hope Committee's 13th STANFORD FESTIVAL kicks off this Sunday in Stanford le Hope - JULY 3rd - at 9.30 am with a stirring Open Air Service led by Spectrum Brass and the Gateway Peoples Centre worship band. This year the theme is Community in the 1940's and everything in the town centre will reflect that theme.

War of words breaks out over Aveley planning inquiry

If Cllr Prevost was so concerned about this development and that the council should be represented at the Inquiry, why did she leave it until after it started to make her comments. I know that if such a situation developed in my own ward, then I would be knocking on officers doors demanding explanations from the off and if I wasn’t getting the answers I wanted, then I might consider going public.

Open Day next month in Bulphan

Bulphan in Bloom were awarded a Silver Gilt award with "Britain in Bloom", for their first entry at national level, and a Gold award with "Anglia in Bloom", for the second year running last year. They have held an Open garden day for the past two years with extremely good feedback from attendants. This year they have nine private gardens open to the public, from larger country homes to the smaller and more quaint gardens.

Tories accuse Labour of planning “back room deal” in Aveley.

Aveley Conservative Councillor Amanda Prevost said: “We fought hard to get this public inquiry so that the decision could be made by an independent inspector. I was shocked and angry when I walked in on the first day to discover that there would be no official representation from Thurrock Council. There were legal teams from the Thames Gateway Development Corporation (who are backing the development) and Havering Council who are barely affected by it, but Thurrock could not come up with anything apart from a written submission.

Chadwell celebrates William and Katherine’s royal wedding

ACROSS THE borough, residents of all ages were celebrating the wedding. In Chadwell St Mary some people gathered around the television and had a quiet do with friends. At the hall next to the sheltered accommodation at Alf Leowen Court, local residents gathered together to celebrate the big day.

Borough set to celebrate royal wedding

At Leatherland Lodge care home in South Ockendon, the staff and residents are busying preparing for a lovely day. They will be watching the wedding in the morning and then will have lunch followed by a relaxing afternoon with a buffet and drinks. During lunch time, all their residents are going to be presented with a mug to commemorate the wedding which they can use for themselves.

Sheltered housing branded “fire risk”

She claims: "What has happened is that these buildings are no longer used for the same purpose as they were built for. Originally they were designed for able-bodied people who could look after themselves but now many of the residents are disabled or even bed-ridden so are less able to look after themselves or get about.
