THE YOUNG Offenders Service are offering to clean your street for free. Over the last few years, the community payback team have successfully cleaned up a number of streets and buildings throughout the borough.
The cabinet agenda for the meeting on 11th August contains the full list of the alternatives agreed at the last full council but no reference is made to that alternative funding. A number of the savings also appear to be contradicted, slashing the possible savings by over £50,000.
Mayor of Thurrock, Cllr Anne Cheale — a Chest trustee — was on hand to oversee the handover and she said: “The Community Chest does an amazing amount of good work for the huge number of small voluntary organisations in Thurrock. In the last ten years it’s raised more than £300,000.”
Organisers ensured that a wide variety of games were introduced such as Attack Attack and Capture the Flag — both “mini battles” — and the team winning the most battles won the war!
The local charity is warning that it’s vitally important that everyone who's had payments above £10 a week over the last financial year fill out these forms - even if they have since stopped or expect them to stop soon. If they don't complete the forms, any money received from 6 April 2010 will need to be repaid.

The speaker was Trudy Westmore-Cox. M.B.E. founder of St. Luke's Hospice. She told us of her origins in Germany, daughter of a Methodist minister. She came to England as a trainee nurse at the age of 18. Serving at a number of London hospitals, including the renowned Royal Marsden Cancer Hospital, she was especially concerned with the suffering caused by that disease.

THE VOLUNTEERS are going to be key cogs in the caring industry over the next few years. It is important to recognise the work that they do. A group of young people were recently rewarded with certificates by the V-Volunteering organisation at a special ceremony at The Beehive in Argent Street recently.
To engage with residents normally at work, the Community Safety Partnership met with commuters at Grays Station in the morning and evening rush hour to gain an insight into their thoughts and concerns relating to the area.
