THIS means that, in summer 2012, Harris Academy Chafford Hundred achieved better GCSE results than any other school with a very similar cohort of students. In his letter to the Academy, Mr Laws wrote: “Your school stood out in two ways. First, you were ranked number one in your table. Second, over 10 per cent more of your pupils achieved five good GCSEs including English and maths than is typical of a school with your intake. LAST week Stephen Metcalfe, MP for South Basildon and East Thurrock, paid a visit to Gable Hall School to meet with their student leadership team and to present them with an EQualities Award. The visit and the award follow on from a fantastic year of GCSE results whereby 73% of pupils achieved a record 5 GCSE’s at A*-C.

OFSTED inspectors have acknowledged the hard work of Manor School’s former head teacher Alex Seaford in smoothing the amalgamation of the nursery and infant and junior schools in 2011. But July’s inspection – released this week – says the school is judged to require special measures.

OFSTED inspectors who visited Horndon-on-the-Hill C of E Primary School at the end of last term say the school is improving and that “the new head teacher has made a notable recent impact”.
But they judged the school to require improvement because - despite clear signs of progress - it is still early days for the new head teacher Travis Martinson to have improved the quality of teaching across the board and increase the rates of progress across the whole school.

MANOR Primary School in Dickens Avenue, Tilbury has a new interim head teacher. Alex Seaford announced her resignation at the start of the summer holidays and Thurrock Council has worked quickly to find an interim replacement.
Parents of children who will leave primary school in 2014 – those born between 1 September 2002 and 31 August 2003 - must apply for a secondary school place for September 2014. Thurrock Council has an efficient and effective online system for people with access to the internet – last year nearly nine out of ten people applied this way.
