THE Lord Mayor of the City of London, Fiona Woolf, welcomed the foreign direct investment by Dubai’s DP World into London Gateway, while visiting the recently opened deep-sea container port and Europe’s largest logistics park. During her visit, the Lord Mayor, climbed one of the world’s largest quay cranes to have an elevated view of the massive three square mile site, where work is underway for a Common User Facility and other proposed distribution centres.
WITH the new tax year just around the corner, small businesses are being urged to consider a scheme that allows them to be taxed on money that flows in and out of their business, rather than using full accounting rules. The ‘cash basis’ scheme can be used by sole traders and other unincorporated businesses with an annual income of less than £79,000 to simplify their accounting processes, saving both time and money.
A TASK FORCE tackling tax dodgers in the Essex restaurant industry was launched today by HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC). HMRC has seen an increased risk of fraudulent activity in the restaurant industry and the taskforce is expected to recover £3 million in Essex, as well as London, Suffolk, Norfolk, Cambridgeshire, Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire.

DP WORLD London Gateway has become the first port in the UK to lift four containers at one time on its quay cranes, which doubles the amount of containers it can lift in one go. The spreader is capable of handling four twenty foot containers or two forty foot containers at a time, this doubles the quay crane’s capacity for moving containers, which will increase efficiency and productivity for UK shippers.

TRACEY Douglas 51 and Chris Salton 51 from Fobbing were recently crowned Cambridge Weight Plan Regional Consultants of the year for East Anglia as well as being one of the companies top 50 sales people, winning a holiday in the process! MCDONALD’S restaurants in Thurrock Park Way in Tilbury and on the A13 near Orsett, have been recognised by the toilet world’s version of the Oscars. The eateries were awarded "Gold" status at the annual independent Loo of the Year Awards.
THE PORT of Tilbury have invested £250,000 into restoring a historical landmark, which features prominently on the Thames skyline. The cupola, the ornate dome structure which can be seen atop the London Cruise Terminal at Tilbury, has been in situ since 1929 and has recently been taken down in order to perform essential restoration work.

THE US NAVY has announced that it has suspended business with a Chafford Hundred defence contractor over “questionable business integrity,” the second time in two months that it has revealed deep problems with a company that services its ships around the world reports The Washington Post.
In a statement the Navy said: "It had suspended Inchcape Shipping Services, an old-line maritime trading firm based in Britain that delivers cargo and provides port services in 66 countries".
SPANISH potatoes arrived in Tilbury this week on board the OPDR Cadiz for the UK Christmas market. This is the inaugural call of OPDR’s weekly Bilbao service which is calling a London Container Terminal in Tilbury.
