London Gateway super-port opens for business

THE ARRIVAL has attracted media attention from around the globe but bosses have warned against any hopes of "overnight success". Group CEO, Mohammed Sharaf told Radio 4 that making a profit will "be a challenge.." He said: "This is a long term project and in many ways a transformational project. For may it will be a change in thinking."

MV Koutalianos docks in Port of Tilbury

THE MV Koutalianos became the largest ever cargo vessel to call the UK’s Port of Tilbury last week. Collecting 50,000 tonnes of barley destined for Saudi Arabia, the shipment was part of a contract Tilbury has with Glencore Grain UK Ltd. Weighing in at 93,000 tonnes and measuring 230 metres in length, the size of two football pitches laid end-to-end, the arrival of the post-Panamax sized MV Koutalianos required careful planning to ensure her safe arrival into the port.

TWO energy projects in Thurrock have been named on a list of schemes to secure government funding guarantees. The Gateway Energy Centre in Corringham, is a 900-megawatt gas-fired power station which would generate enough electricity for one million homes.

Zim drops in on London Gateway

THE Zim Rotterdam called in at DP World London Gateway port on Friday evening to undergo required maintenance. The 10,000 TEU ship will be the largest ever cargo vessel to enter the Thames and was expected alongside London Gateway at 19.00 hours.
