Warning to those selling booze to under-agers

Thurrock Council’s Trading Standards will be using young volunteers to check whether stores are acting properly with the sale of age-restricted goods. It is part of an ongoing test-purchasing programme, but Trading Standards is also asking shops and parents to be vigilant and help ensure alcohol and cigarettes are not supplied to under-18s.

Capital Shopping owns four of the U.K.’s 10 biggest shopping centres, including the Manchester Arndale and the Lakeside Shopping Centre in Essex. The offer from Indianapolis-based Simon is conditional on Capital Shopping abandoning a planned 1.6 billion-pound purchase of Trafford Centre mall in Manchester. The U.K. company said today its board plans to delay a meeting to approve that deal to late January from Dec. 20.

St Mary’s primary has perfect score as SATS results published

A TILBURY primary school was celebrating today after achieving a perfect score in their SATS results. St Mary's Catholic primary school in Calcutta Road, Tilbury achieved the highest mark in the borough with 100% of the pupils achieving Level 4 in both English and Maths.

Quarry Hill celebrate coming out of special measures

What has been remarkable about the inspection report is that in some categories the school has gone from special measures, leapfrogged over "Satisfactory" and been awarded a "Good". The report makes marked reference to the stellar leadership and the markedly improved teaching and good progress of the pupils. It also points to the improvement in pastoral care and support as well as many other plus points.

For outsiders, you can't believe it is only five hours until curtain up on the three evening run for Little Shop of Horrors but we are confident it will be fine.

Grays scored the winner in the 52nd minute. Aiken produced good build up play as he thundered towards the Stansted goal. He slipped the ball to Alex Osbourn who slotted the ball past the keeper.

Grays magistrates named in closure list

GRAYS magistrates court is among the 93 magistrates' courts to be closed in England and Wales reports the BBC. These figures are slightly down from 103 magistrates' courts and 54 county courts previously marked for closure. Nearby courts in Waltham Forest and Harlow survived the chop but Grays will go. It is expected that case work will be spread to Basildon and Southend

Council chief rebuffs union job loss claim

He was speaking in response to the statement from the GMB union, claiming “Thurrock Council can expect to see 292 jobs go in the light of the government’s announcement” on council spending.
