HW Wilson delighted to be part of Opportunity Thurrock

LAST WEEK saw the second ‘Opportunity Thurrock’ event held this time at ‘The Backstage Centre’ High House Production Park, Purfleet. The event is a careers fair open to every secondary school within Thurrock. Students ranging from years 10 & 11 to 6th formers attended to meet with and get advice from business owners, operators and further education providers. With a common goal in mind, a great atmosphere was created by the exhibitors and the majority of people there commented on how easy they found it to engage with, and have meaningful conversations with the young people.

Students strut their stuff on Lakeside catwalk

INTU Lakeside hosted a series of fashion shows with a difference on Saturday 5th October featuring garments designed and created by Chelmsford College Art & Design students. Each item was created from recycled bags donated by many of the centre’s shops, including Primark, Forever 21 and Debenhams.

Free networking at the Thurrock Business Biscotti

For all those of you out there this could be your answer to meeting more people to do business with. Business Biscotti is not like other networking groups, it is very informal with no restrictions. It is free to join online and free to attend the meetings so you can just drop in when you want to. Cost Saving Finance a local Commercial Finance Business and Whitbread launched the new group to bring businesses in Thurrock and the surrounding areas together to meet, talk and network so that more business relationships can be made. The group since its launch in June this year has been well attended at the four previous meetings.

Council awards long serving employees

THURROCK Council celebrated the efforts many of its workers who have served the residents of the borough for many years.Over 25 people were at Monday’s (7 October) event in the Civic Offices to be thanked by the Mayor of Thurrock, Cllr Tony Fish, and Chief Executive Graham Farrant.

Purfleet Concrete company told to ditch plant

THE UK Competition Commission (CC) has today (Tuesday) published its provisional decision on remedies for the cement sector. A WOMAN in her twenties has been found dead in a house in Ward Avenue, Grays. Police were called to the house at just after 4pm on Monday afternoon (October 7th) after neighbours had expressed concerns for her welfare.

Le-Surf campaigns to beat cancer

LABOUR'S parliamentary candidate Mike Le-Surf is campaigning to beat cancer in South Basildon and East Thurrock by raising awareness and support for cancer research in the UK. Mr. Le-Surf is supporting the standardising of cigarette packaging to deter young people from taking up the habit while also promoting awareness of prostate cancer which will affect one in eight men during their lifetime. Mr. Le-Surf met with Cancer Research UK and Prostate Cancer UK at the Labour Party conference in Brighton last month and is encouraging residents to get involved with their campaigns to beat cancer.

Grow your business overseas

THURROCK businesses are being encouraged to look to overseas growth by the region's largest international trade organisations. Enterprise Europe Network and UK Trade & Investment have partnered with Thurrock Council for a half-day export workshop at the Thurrock Learning Shop, George Street, Grays on Wednesday, October 9 from 9.30am to 2pm.
