Festival’s sequel is smash hit!

THE second Thurrock International Film Festival finished on Saturday 28th September with a glamorous awards ceremony where filmmakers received trophies and prizes. The festival received 250 short films from 35 countries and the best were selected for screening, and of those the best few were sent to the celebrity judging panel which this year included Frances Fisher, Alfred Molina, Iain Glen and Brian Blessed.

Thumb a lift for National Liftshare Week

THURROCK Council is supporting National Liftshare Week - 6 to 11 October - to identify potential car sharers and promote the benefits of sharing a car to save time and money as well as the benefit it can have on congestion and the environment. The council will be promoting car sharing to the public at Grays Shopping Centre on Wednesday, 9 October between 9am and 5pm.

Grays man fined after abandoning dog

A MAN from Grays has been given a suspended prison sentence for leaving his dog in a lock-up garage for days without food and water. The dog, a brindle Staffordshire crossbreed female, called Scarlet was found in an emaciated state with bare patches on her coat and abrasive marks in several places on her body reports The Thurrock Enquirer.

Inquest date set for crane driver who died in port of Tilbury

THE INQUEST for a South Ockendon crane driver who was killed in Tilbury is set for next week. Ian Campbell, 45, from South Ockendon, was killed when the crane he was driving in the port of Tilbury toppled over in November 2011.

Further auditions for new theatre group

THERE will be further auditions next week for a new musical theatre group in Thurrock. TOPS kids held their first auditions last month for budding actors between the ages of 8 and 18 years old.

Liam Holden murder trial: Owen Wood found guilty of manslaughter

OWEN Wood from Godman Road, Grays was found guilty today (October 4) of the manslaughter of Liam Holden in Grays in March this year. He was found not guilty of murder and his brother Ryan Wood, 21, was found not guilty following a majority verdict by the jury.

Man robbed in Nutberry Close in Grays

HE describes two of the suspects as black, aged between 16-20 years old with Essex accents. Any witnesses to the incident or anyone with any information is asked to contact Pc Stephen Smith at Grays CID on 101 or via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Aveley man in court after Serious Crime Squad swoop
