Chief constable blast hungover cops

THE Chief Constable of Essex Police, Stephen Kavanagh has blasted officers who take sick leave to nurse hangovers. Mr Kavanagh spoke out after figures revealed that his officers were taking an average of 12 days off sick each year. Cruiser arrested minutes after being banned by court

POLICE arrested a man who allegedly drove away from court minutes after he was banned for "street racing". Scores of people were called before magistrates in Basildon on Monday in connection with illegal driving in the Lakeside area of Thurrock reports the BBC.

Grays film-maker wins award at film festival

Jonny, as he is known, both wrote and directed the 15-minute short film, "Oh Messy Life". The film is an exploration of a young man and his fear of commitment as he and his girlfriend work out their relationship against a background of contemporary party and drug culture. It was premiered at this year's launch of the Thurrock Art Trail at the High House Production Park in Purfleet.

Bogus police officers sought after terrifying attack on boy

POLICE are appealing for information following a robbery at premises in Grays on Friday, September 20. Around 9.30pm four unknown men requested entry to a block of flats in Trelawney Close off Howard Road, Grays, claiming to be police officers and giving information that did not appear suspicious to the occupant. They entered a property on the first floor where there was a young teenage boy and forced him to the floor while they demanded to know where the money was and threated to hurt him. After a thorough search of the flat the group of men left stealing only three designer handbags.

Successful women’s business networking group launches in Thurrock

A NEW organisation for enterprising women in the Thurrock area is launching on 10 October 2013 at Orsett Hall Hotel. Jo Curtis, an Essex-based entrepreneur who ran her own successful wedding photography business and now runs the hugely popular WIBN (Women in Business Network) groups in Billericay, Brentwood, Leigh-on-Sea and Southend is launching the new group in Thurrock.

Investigation now to begin after “explosion that shook Thurrock”

AN INVESTIGATION is set to begin following the explosion at an Industrial Chemicals plant in Thurrock that left two men injured and residents across the borough advised to stay indoors.The Health and Safety Executive has been informed after the leak of caustic soda from a "small tank" at the plant at Oliver Road, West Thurrock.

Blaze at port of Tilbury after straddle carrier caught fire

CREWS were called to Berth 39 to tackle a blaze in a straddle carrier. Firefighters arriving at the scene reported that the engine compartment was well alight. They immediately set up the aerial ladder platform and set to work using one jet and an aerial ladder platform monitor to ensure the blaze did not spread to nearby containers.

Cocaine hidden in nuts cracked wide open at the port of Tilbury

COCAINE with an estimated street value of £2.4m has been seized by Border Force officers at the port of Tilbury after being hidden in a cargo of nuts. About 46kg of the Class A drug was found in two black holdalls at Tilbury that had been shipped in a container from Panama, officials said.

Schools minister congratulates Harris Academy Chafford

THIS means that, in summer 2012, Harris Academy Chafford Hundred achieved better GCSE results than any other school with a very similar cohort of students. In his letter to the Academy, Mr Laws wrote: “Your school stood out in two ways. First, you were ranked number one in your table. Second, over 10 per cent more of your pupils achieved five good GCSEs including English and maths than is typical of a school with your intake. This is a fantastic achievement that you should be very proud of.”
