AS part of our on-going assessment of the state of the criminal justice system in Thurrock, we interviewed the Portfolio Holder for Public Protecton, cllr Gerard Rice. As Gerard says: "I am not the Chief Constable for Thurrock". Perhaps that is the expectation of the councillor who is charged with shaping the public protection agenda in the borough.
Thurrock dominated the next phase of the game and winger Sam Porter added a brace of tries to underline Thurrock’s superior play, Mark Brandon was off target with three difficult conversions, as the half closed which totally belonged to the visitors, it was marred by Dave Stevens leaving the field with an arm injury, and was replaced by Seb Rate.

Despite stark warnings from an expert at the meeting that almost the entire £6m HIV/Aids budget is spent on drug treatment, and that every £10,500 annual cut would in effect withdraw treatment from a patient who would die without it, the board members nodded through a £1m cutback.

Several players had returned to the team after the recent long lay off and it was one of these, Dave Graham, who drove over from a 5 metre scrum from flanker. Cotter converted. However, Dagenham hit back immediately with a well taken try of their own to score wide out on the wing. The Thurrock pack now became increasingly dominant in the scrum, with Steve Vickers taking a couple against the head. From one such scrum, Cotter kicked long and the Dagenham full back had to run it into touch.

The tactical deployment was repeated at Barrows Farm, Harlow yesterday (Saturday) for the Ryman Division One North fixture. Outside the ground a large police van was joined by a further two vehicles as a dozen officers patrolled outside the ground.
Despite the heavy pitch and long grass, it was the pace of the Aveley attackers that caused a headache for Horsham. Had they had their radar on properly, it could have been even better for the Millermen.

Ruel had the chance to finish the match off for Rocks with three minutes to go but scooped the ball wide of Goodwin Green and the post. Deep in added time he had another chance to finish things off, but was again wide of the target but it didn’t matter as the final whistle went soon after to secure Rocks’ eleventh successive league win.
GRAYS ATH dug deep, held firm, showed consistency and took a well deserved three points away from Barrows Farm with a 2-1 victory. Boss Julian Dick's was very frustrated after the draws at Wingate and Maldon and for a long time it looked like Grays might be frustrated again. With difficult conditions to combat again, the first half was littered with unforced errors.
