New life for Max after heart transplant

Max travelled to the Freeman hospital in Newcastle where he spent three months waiting for the operation. Whilst there, he composed a journal. After the operation, he published the letters into a book called: "A Change of Heart".

Disability transport conference at the Beehive

Hosted by Thurrock Disability Network and staffed by pupils from Beacon Hill School, the exhibition was an opportunity for disabled people to talk face to face both to council officers and local taxi and bus providers about their concerns. Trans-Vol, Thurrock’s community transport project, was well represented and Dave Meheghan, the manager, proudly displayed the latest addition to their fleet of vehicles. Wheelchair users also tried out a rear loading private hire car which took them for a spin.

Feel Good Fair at Thameside

Among those enjoying Saturday’s feel good factor was Cllr Lynn Worrall, Thurrock Council's cabinet member for Community, Culture and Leisure. She tried out the Smoothie Bike, had a go with the Wii Fit club and said afterwards: “Saturday proved a great success with hundreds of people coming into the Thameside and either trying out the bike or the Wii Fit — which was a real laugh!

Go Dance at Quarry Hill Primary

"Essentially we are trying to build the case for dance being an important contributor to the Government's bid to halt the rise of childhood obesity by 2020. Special show as part of campaign for brave Oliver

Oliver Holmes is seven years old and has cerebral palsy. He is a bright, determined little boy but he physically struggles to keep up with his peers because of the stiffness in his right side caused by the illness. Oliver has been accepted to have a life changing operation called "Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy" which would remove the stiffness and allow him to participate fully in activities.

Fire in Brennan Drive, Tilbury

Firefighters were called to house on fire in Brennan Drive, Tilbury. When fire crews arrived at 4pm on Sunday afternoon they found the ground floor fifty percent alight.

Two Thurrock projects benefit from carers fund

Two projects in the south west Esesx area will receive funding: Thurrock Lifestyle Solutions CIC and St Luke's Hospice, Basildon. A spokesperson for Thurrock Lifestyles said: "We are delighted to have been given this opportunity to support local carers of disabled children in planning the tricky future path between leaving special school and entering the adult world”

Calls for autism centre in Thurrock

“Parents of children with autism have asked for a safe haven where their children, as adults, will have a permanent home, a transition between home and moving towards independent living and also lead a fulfilling and enriched life learning additional skills, rather than be placed in an institutional environment outside of the borough.”
