Waders to celebrate fifteenth birthday

There are two sessions every week: one in Blackshots on Tuesday evenings from 8 to 9 pm and one in Corringham on Fridays at lunchtime. They have been making a splash for 15 years and are celebrating this with a party in the Beehive in Grays on Friday, December 17th at 7.00 pm.

Praise from government for adult social care

At Wednesday (8 December) evening’s meeting of the cabinet, portfolio holder for Adult Social Care, Cllr Tony Fish, said it “judges the quality and range of services on offer and performance and progress in improving the quality of life and outcomes for people who use services, carers and the wider community. The ratings scale ranges from performing poorly (the lowest), performing adequately, performing well up to performing excellently (the highest).”

Councillor calls for “private” football stadium to kick-start health

Councillor Rice echoed the call. He said: "With the health and well-being of the borough being discussed, we should get the private sector on board to build a sports stadium in Tilbury."

To compound matters, after reading out the proposals and savings, portfolio holder for childrens' services, cllr Diana Hale intervened and proposed alternative cuts apparently based on the concerns from elderly residents in Stifford Clays.

Carers celebrate as carers centre remains open

The gallery were delighted to hear that the Thurrock carers centre in Cromwell Road will remain open although it will be outsourced to an independent organisation in either the voluntary or private sector.

National award for Satash team

A SMALL community care project in Thurrock has won national recognition for its innovative and successful work. Satash Community Care based in Mollands Lane, South Ockendon, is a privately run residential care home providing services for eight adults with learning difficulties.

Dove Spa celebrates its first birthday

Dove Spa at Lakeside Shopping Centre is preparing to celebrate its first birthday with a range of rather tempting treats. On Thursday 2nd December between 4pm and 8pm, staff will be offering visitors a glass of fizz and a celebration cupcake, along with tours of the spa. There will also be a demonstration of Dove’s January Detox Treatment.

New management plans for GP practices in Thurrock

A total of ten GP practices are currently run directly by the primary care trust; the other practices across south west Essex are run by GPs themselves. NHS South West Essex is inviting other organisations to apply to take over the management of these ten surgeries in line with national guidance. The second phase is about to start and letters will be sent to patients at The Brambles Practice in Brentwood at the end of November. Patients can give their feedback by completing and returning the feedback form we are sending them. There will also be a drop-in session at the practice, where patients can come along and find out more.

Health boss slams care consultation as “appalling”

He said: "This was not a proper consultation. Why on earth did you produce a 51 page document? It was simply too daunting for many people. "I don't think you appreciate the level of fear that has spread throughout the community."I also question why you put an advert in a local paper giving the date of the consultation meetings when two of the meetings had already taken place."

T-shirts of hurt mark domestic violence week

THIS week is the start of 10 Days of Action to end violence against women and on Tuesday 23rd November, Thurrock Women’s Aid held a visual display to remember the 100 women who are killed each year due to domestic abuse. The clothes line project is a visual display of t-shirts with graphic messages and illustrations that have been designed by survivors of violence or by friends and families of survivors.

Thurrock doctor suspended over sexual harassment claims

Akinfemi Akingboye was just hours into his first shift as a locum senior house officer when he noticed two nurses. He grabbed one nurse, a blonde in her 20s, by her head and tried to kiss her in the staff room. He also told another he wanted to ''get to know her better'' on her break before sniffing her hair.

Thurrock, has made the top ten, according to Tesco, which recently became the UK's widest provider of erectile dysfunction services.
