IN THE latest instalment or comedy vignette, Smivadee extols the virtue of Yoga. We spoke to Matt Smith the other day who told us there have been quite a lot already put in the can.
It is the latest in a burgeoning relationship between the Tilbury singer-songwriter and director, James Kavanagh. It throws in the kitchen sink in a melange of images and vocal styles. Part homage and party parody of all things musical and all things artistically popular.
HERE is a singer that we have seen before. And boy what an improvement. In many ways, Anna is the embodiment of why we run Your Voice. It is an educational platform and a hub for artists to improve their art. Anna gives it her all in this song and can really hold a note.
The lights quickly go up into a small light show to reveal the band and their introduction of "All Over The World". However what caught my attention straight away wasn't the song and how good it was but their outfits. They were certainly dressed for the occasion, the singer wore a bright white suit complete with curly wig and sunglasses. He was accompanied by the bass player sporting a green velvet suit and the guitarist in a purple velvet trouser and waist coat with a look that makes you think he's supposed to be in a Moody Blues tribute instead.
WHAT COULD BE better on a lovely spring afternoon than a bit of drum and bass courtesy of one of our favourites: Ricochet Banton. This work comes courtesy of the every prolific and Thurrock based RiseTV.
THIS IS THE fourth or fifth time, Gable Hall student Louisa Johnson has appeared on YourThurrock and we never cease to be amazed by her rich soulful voice. Louisa appeared at the Your Voice sessions on Thursday and gave a gritty performance of Proud Mary.
IN THE SECOND part of our pieces on the world of work for Beacon Hill students, Liam has spent a number of weeks at the Pyramid Centre.
Thanks to the work of the Thurrock Lifestyles Solution for recording the experience.
Yolanda Brown is the premier female saxophonist in the UK and is currently on a tour of the UK to promote her first debut Album, April Showers, May Flowers. The album is a wonderful mix that touches lightly on jazz and soul and R&B. Yolanda says. ‘People often ask me what my target audience is,’ ‘Thing is, when I look out into the audience at my shows, I can't really tell. I see all sorts: all ethnicities, all ages, either sex. So really, I guess, I'm making music for everyone.’ ‘I mean, why limit yourself?’
They started the second set with a request: "Warrior" - this heavy tune threw everyone back into the rocking atmosphere. After more jesting with the audience they played another song in the memory of Gary Moore - this time it was "Out In The Fields". The lead guitarist also featured on the vocals of this track which complimented the song well. A little while later in the set we were introduced to another member of the band on the harmonica linking nicely into "The Cowboy Song" another classic which had the crowd singing along.
THERE ARE MANY MUSICAL careers that are worth following in Thurrock but one of the most interesting is that of composer Russell Bell. Grays-based Russell is making in roads into the theme music and soundtrack world both at home as well as abroad.
OVER THE last few weeks, students from Beacon Hill school have been on work experience. Over the next four days, we will show what the pupils have been doing.
THE OPEN MIC nights at Burton's in Grays are becoming very popular. Well done to all the hard work by Lee Bowers. On Sunday, the Bow Street Runners performed at the night in Grays High Street. The Grays band are picking up quite a fan base.
