ENDORSING the DVD is Leighbeth Winters, who is featured in it together with her late husband Richard who passed away at St. Luke’s Hospice. As Richard’s wife she was also his main support and carer. Leighbeth said ‘’Both Richard and I wholeheartedly supported St. Luke’s in producing what I think is a very informative and reassuring production. When it was first suggested, by our visiting Macmillan Nurse, that Richard could benefit by being in St. Luke’s care we struggled to accept this offer of support – mainly because we were fearful of the word ’Hospice’ and to be honest we didn’t really understand how St. Luke’s would be able to help us.’’
Cy Honeyman, 38 from Grays, and Jon Garthwaite, 38 from Southampton, are mid-way through their challenge to run ten marathons each in a year to raise £10,000 for Little Havens Hospice. The men took on the challenge in memory of Cy’s daughter, and Jon’s goddaughter, Megan who would have celebrated her 10th birthday this year. Megan had a life-limiting illness known as Global Developmental Delay. She was also diagnosed with Epilepsy and both conditions caused a complex list of symptoms which grew increasingly difficult to manage. When Megan was three, the family turned to Little Havens Hospice for respite care.

THE months of rehearsals that go into a Gang Show are tiring and more than enough work for most but the Gang at Thurrock Gang Show had more work to do after their successful 2013 show came to an end. They decided to put together an entry for the Bright Sparks Project, a competition by The Scout Association which is looking for the hidden talent within Scouting. The grand prize is the opportunity to work with leading songwriters, artists, producers and more to produce a music album, single and music video which will be released on sale.
THE draw raised £1,700 for the hospice which cares for children from across Essex who have a life-limiting condition and was organised by Project Administrator Sharon Palmer, aged 52, from Jacobs Ltd who said, "The raffle was a great success and I want to say thank you to all our employees for buying a ticket. I realise that we raised a small amount in comparison how much Little Havens needs to keep running but if everybody locally did there bit then the hospice could do even more to support local families. In today’s busy and hectic lifestyle it's easy to forget how important it is to look after others and however much or little we give, we can all help."
