A spokesperson said: "We have an exciting year of fundraising planned which includes a Burlesque for Breasts night, a Barn Dance, a stall at the Horndon Feast & Fayre, a team at the Horndon 10k, Dog Walk, Party in Pink and a London Trekathon!"
PETER said: “My dad died of cancer a few years ago and then I heard about the work MacMillan do and how they use coffee mornings to raise money. I just felt I had to do something.” He added: “I’d like to thank everyone who donated prizes – especially Heroes Framing Centre of Grays and Sainsbury’s at Chafford Hundred – and everyone who bought tickets. I’ve raised £505 overall.”
OCKENDON resident, Deborah Awe has continued her fundraising efforts for The Dream Factory charity by organising an event at her school. Brentwood prep, year 4 pupil Deborah, eight, was first struck by the work of the charity when she met a new friend who had an incurable condition. She felt so moved that she decided to do something to help and was keen to involve her fellow pupils to arrange a charity day with a difference.

TWO friends return from an epic trek through one of America’s most inhospitable terrains.
Nancy Smith & Andrea Nunnery both from Horndon on the Hill have just returned from a trek into the Grand Canyon in aid of charity Breast Cancer Campaign.
The journey took them into the centre of the canyon, through the Havasupai Reservation at its base and then ascending all the way up on the last day of their hike.
HELP for Heroes (H4H) has today opened a store at the intu Lakeside shopping centre in Essex, building on the success of the first H4H store that opened in St David’s shopping centre, Cardiff in 2012. Plans have also been revealed to open a further eight stores around the UK within a year. Going against the usual trend for charity shops, H4H sells new, branded merchandise, rather than donated or second-hand goods like most UK charities. Consumers are able to buy H4H branded products that they want and need, such as cooking utensils and leisurewear, but with the profits going to charity rather than global corporations.
AFTER a fantastic Race Night the evening before, The Rotary Club of Thurrock Gateway spent Saturday at intu Lakeside collecting from shoppers all day long. Covering two entrances 16 club members in Halloween hats'n'wigs greeted visitors to the shopping centre from 9 am until 7 pm.
STEPHEN Metcalfe, local MP for South Basildon and East Thurrock, joined staff and supporters of St Luke’s Hospice last week to help break new ground for the forthcoming development. Together with Gerry Peaty, Chairman of St Luke’s Trustee Board, Mr Metcalfe picked up a shovel to mark the beginning of the building of a new vibrant Day Therapy, Assessment and Support Centre which will enable the Hospice to take a significant step forward in helping more people and enable them to offer a greater variety of services in the future.

Wendy Higginson and her team raised £290 at the Holy Cross church coffee morning in South Ockendon. We then crossed over to the very busy Ockendon hub where the lads from HW Wilson were very busy serving coffee and tea to the assembled throng.
