A FORMER Thurrock resident is cycling from Hartlepool to Thurrock in order to raise funds and awareness for HIV. Karen North is now a Sunderland University student, who has made Hartlepool her home but she originally hails from Thurrock.
A 40-year-old man from Chafford Hundred who has recently been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes is taking on the challenge of the London Marathon to raise vital funds for Diabetes UK. Phil Cunningam, a company director, had already signed up to run the marathon but when he was diagnosed with the condition decided he would raise money for Diabetes UK.
LITTLE Havens Hospice, which is part of charity Havens Hospices, expects to open the doors to its newest charity shop on Monday 7th April. The shop, which will be located at 14 King Street, Stanford-Le-Hope, will rely on kind donations to stock the shop floor with clothing and accessories, DVD’s, books, toys and bric-a-brac from the local community, and a team of committed volunteers to help keep it running smoothly.

Breast Cancer Campaign fund world-class breast cancer research with the greatest potential to save and improve lives, bringing together the brightest minds to share knowledge and produce better, quicker results. They passionately believe we owe it to every woman affected by breast cancer to explore every avenue to overcome and outlive this disease – in our lifetime.
NEWLY formed regional fundraising group for Breast Cancer Campaign called 'Simply the Breast' raised just over £1500 at a recent coffee & shopping morning held in the Village Hall in Horndon on the Hill. The ten committee members joined forces from all over Thurrock in January this year and have been busy planning events for 2014.
ON Saturday 8th March at St Josephs Hall, Stanford le Hope around 90 racegoers supported this joint venture to raise funds to rebuild the Maternity Unit in Mitala Maria, Uganda. The evening began with a welcome by Rotary Club President-Karen Sayers-Irving and then Philip Hills (parishioner & Rotary Club member) explained in more detail about the Ugandan project.

THE Rotary Club of Thurrock Gateway welcomed 10-year-old Monika Jones (Daughter of Member Liz Jones) to their meeting on Monday evening (3rd March 2014) at The Park Inn By Radisson, North Stifford. The most enterprising youngster had hand crafted book marks, pencil top decorations, grips & biscuits and then sold them to her school chums and in the process raised £30.95 towards Rotary Club charities.
STAFF at HW Wilson will be sleeping on the streets of Southend on Saturday night in order to raise money for charity. The intrepid trio of Peter Whiffen, Phil Pearson and Jeni Beckett are hoping to raise money for the Southend YMCA in what is called the Southend SleepEasy.
THE official launch of Thurrock Community Chest’s Grand Draw took place at Intu Lakeside last week. The charity raises money to offer grants to Thurrock based groups who deliver activities that benefit the residents of Thurrock.
